Oakland-Craig hammers Malcolm in season opener

The Oakland-Craig Football team picked up a big 38-0 home win over Malcolm to open up the season Friday night.

The Knights did all their damage in the first 3 quarters, scoring 12 points in the 1st, 14 in the 2nd, and 12 more in the 3rd.

Jared Mulder was 9-15 passing for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

Garrett Seagren caught 6 balls for 183 yards and two scores. Kobe Benne hauled in 3 passes for 48 yards.

Ben Smith finished with 86 yards rushing on 12 carries, scoring once. Jefferson McNeil scored on a 65-yard run, his only rushing attempt of the game. Benne had 48 yards rushing on 4 attempts, and scored twice.

Robby Mayberry made 10 tackles while Tyson Harney had 9.

Oakland-Craig registered 521 yards of total offense, 290 coming on the ground.

It was a great team performance from the Knights. A performance that was to be expected given everyone Oakland-Craig brought back. Very impressive considering the Knights were without some players.

Oakland-Craig (1-0) takes on Battle Creek (1-0) on the road Friday night.

The Braves won 14-12 at then No. 1 Yutan this past Friday night.

Battle Creek beat the Knights twice last year, winning 21-12 in the regular season, and 49-21 in the playoffs.

You can bet the Braves will be out to get Oakland-Craig again, and more than likely have a lot of confidence and are riding a big high following last week's win.

Going into Battle Creek's house and winning is never easy, but if there's a team that can go in there and get the job done it's Oakland-Craig.

The Knights have to be clicking on all cylinders, and must have tremendous balance like they did against the Clippers.

You know Oakland-Craig can play defense seeing as they shutout Malcolm, but the same could be said for Battle Creek seeing as they held Yutan to just 12 points.

I look for this game to be a defensive slugfest with players like Seagren being the difference in the game for the Knights.

Big time players make big time plays in big games, and it's time for Seagren to shine and have another big game.

He was a huge part of Oakland-Craig's win Friday night as was Benne. Both accounted for a lot of production, and it made the difference for the Knights, in my opinion.

Those two players, Mulder, Evan Reinert, Smith, McNeil, and others all need to have big games for Oakland-Craig.

This should be a slugfest of a game, and I totally expect things to come down to the 4th quarter.

The Knights can definitely win, but it's not going to be easy.

I think what helps Oakland-Craig though is they'll no doubt be playing with a chip on their shoulder.

The Knights are in the same position that Battle Creek was last year in that the Braves were coming off a playoff loss to Oakland-Craig. Now the Knights are coming off a playoff loss to Battle Creek so we'll see how Oakland-Craig responds.
