Pender looking for another good season

Head Coach: Cody Volk (2nd season)

2019 record: 4-5 (lost to Bloomfield in first round of playoffs)

Overview:

The Pender Football Team looks for another good and successful season as the Pendragons boast quite a bit of talent and weapons that return from last year, plus others.

Back for 2nd year Head Coach Cody Volk is Dylan Vogt (5'11, 190 SR RB/LB), who had over 1,000 yards rushing last year, Jaxon Maise (6'2, 215 SR OG/DE), Lucas Timm (6'0, 230 SR OG/DE), Layne Sturek (5'8, 130 SR WR/CB), Evan English (5'11, 170 JR OG/LB), Alex Johnson (5'9, 145 JR WR/DE), Caleb Trimble (5'10, 155 JR QB/RB/CB), who rushed for over 700 yards last year, Jacob Bruns (5'10, 180 JR TE/LB), Chase Hofmeister (5'10, 150 JR RB/WR/CB), Colton Sanderson (6'1, 240 SO C/DT), Braxton Volk (5'11, 145 SO QB/CB), Trey Johnson (5'10, 140 SO RB/LB), Matthew Ferris (5'6, 100 SO WR/CB), Brody Krusemark (5'10, 145 FR RB/LB), Aiden Beckman (5'6, 110 FR QB/CB), Andrew Duncan (6'0, 200 FR C/DT), and Adan Godin (5'11, 230 FR OG/DT).

The Pendragons certainly have the pieces in place to make another playoff run without a doubt.

Coach Volk says the team has a lot of potential. "As a staff we excited about the upcoming season. We return our top two rushers from last year in Dylan Vogt and Caleb Trimble and return our core up front. Depth will be an issue as usual, but we are athletic across the board."

Of course that is if we don't get shutdown by the pandemic.

Volk says adjustments had to be made this offseason. "We had to be more flexible in how we approached our off-season activities. We decided as a staff to not attend any out of town team camps and focus instead internally. We had to adjust our strength and conditioning program and this meant that a lot of our young men didn’t get a chance to work out together until we had our team and conditioning camp."

Here's to hoping the full season gets played without any disruptions, cancellations, postponements, alterations, or interruptions.

Season Outlook:

The Pender Football Team figures to have a good chance to be good once again this season.

Hopefully the Pendragons get a chance to show what they can do and reach their full potential too.

Volk says he is thrilled with the NSAA's decision to move forward with Fall Sports. "Very excited that they had made this decision and we hope they continue to apply the common sense approach to the obstacles that this whole ordeal encompasses."

I will say that we in Nebraska are very lucky to have an opportunity for there to be a season as other schools in other states are not so lucky.

The Pendragons are in a District with Emerson-Hubbard, Allen, Walthill, and Homer.

Pender has a challenging schedule this year so the Pendragons definitely have their work cut out for them this season.

Volk says the kids are very hungry to get back out there after missing Spring Sports last year. "They really are motivated right now to get out there and compete in something else. Luckily we were able to have baseball for some of the boys and that helped get them back into that mode, but it will also be good to get some structure and routine again."

I look for the Pendragons to work hard and make the most of their opportunities this year.

I think Pender finds a way to go at least 4-4 again.

The challenging schedule is good for power point purposes too as the Pendragons just barely squeaked into the playoffs last year given the schedule they had.

Pender opens up the season on the road at Creighton on August 28th.

08/28/20 @ Creighton
