Bancroft-Rosalie-Lyons-Decatur drops first game to Hartington Cedar Catholic
The Bancroft-Rosalie-Lyons-Decatur Wolverines lost their inaugural game Friday night, losing 27-8 at home to Hartington Cedar Catholic.
Head Coach Dan Maresh says he was pleased with his team with it being their first game. "Oh I was really proud of our performance. A lot stacked against us that first game. The whole jumping up to C-2 plus playing 11-man for the first time with those kids.
It was a tough way for BRLD to start the season, but the Trojans are a very good team, and a loss to them is certainly only something to learn from.
The Wolverines (0-1) host Crofton (1-0) Friday night.
The Warriors defeated Wisner-Pilger 28-6 at home this past Friday night.
That was a big win for Crofton, but it's not like the Warriors blew the Gators out of the water. And I would say, based on that score, that BRLD has a chance to compete with and knock off Crofton.
The Wolverines are certainly going to need to be much better offensively, and will need to establish physicality at the line of scrimmage, but if BRLD does those things, they should put themselves in a position to be successful.
Maresh says his squad has to capitalize on offense. "Execution on offense, especially when we get to the red zone. Taking advantage of opportunities. They did a great job last week of stopping the run with their front 7. We need to be able to exploit that front 7 and make them bring extra into the box. And hopefully we can execute in the passing game a little bit this week."
The Wolverines have to put the season opener behind them. It's over, it's in the past, and all BRLD can do now is move on and focus on the Warriors.
Crofton is a very good team, just like Hartington Cedar Catholic, there's no doubt about that, so the Wolverines are going to have to bring their "A" game to get the job done.
BRLD has to take care of the ball and create turnovers to be successful, in my opinion.
The Wolverines have to execute and do the little things well in order to knock off the Warriors.
It's important for BRLD to keep getting better. The next two games don't figure to be a whole lot easier than the game against the Trojans so the Wolverines can't afford to regress.
Friday night's game is big with the next two being on the road.
There's a big difference between being 0-2 and going on the road, and being 1-1 heading into back-to-back road games.
Listen to Friday night's game on 107.9 the Bull. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Bancroft with pregame at 6:40.
