Mascot: Raiders
Colors: Blue and Gold
Class: C-1
Head Coach: Dustin Sealey (3rd season) (10-9 record)
2017 record: Logan View 6-4 Scribner-Snyder 0-8
Returning Starters: 8 offense 9 defense
Overview:
Logan View and Scribner-Snyder have merged programs, combining to make up Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
The Raiders will keep their colors of Blue and Gold, and are led by 3rd Year Head Coach Dustin Sealey.
LVSS returns 8 offensive and 9 defensive starters, including Sophomores Connor Larson (5'9, 165 WR/S), Ty Miller (5'10, 160 WR/CB), Brett Uhing (5'8, 180 OL), and Beto Valdivia (5'10, 160 LB), Juniors Alex Miller (5'10, 200 OL/DL), and Alex Wagner (6'0, 185 LB), and Seniors Eric French (5'9, 195 OL/DL), Brady Hull (6'0, 180 RB/LB), Michael Luther (6'1, 175 WR), Lucas Schneck (6'1, 220 DL), Nathan Wacker (6'2, 175 OL/DL), Austin Peters (6'1, 170 QB/DB), and James Hudson (6'0, 185 OL/LB).
Peters and Hudson are from Scribner-Snyder, and I look for them to have a big impact on this team.
Sealey says Hull is a well rounded player. "A great athlete and even a better person. Elected captain as a sophomore. Rushed for over 1,000 yds and second on the team in tackles."
Sealey also says he likes the way Alex Miller practices and says he is a great technician on both sides of the ball.
Sealey says Wacker is the type of player that's a coach's dream. "Nathan works his butt off to be a good football player. I love this about him. A lot of fun to coach and be around. I would take him on my team any day. "
Key losses include Linebacker Nathan Taylor and Safety Nolan Miller
Freshman Logan Booth is a newcomer who Sealey feels could make a big impact.
Sealey says there was great participation in the weight room in the offseason. "I've been running strength and conditioning in the summers now, this is my 8th summer of doing it. Not all at Logan View, but this is the best summer I've ever had with a group of guys and as a school as a whole as far as consistently attending workouts in the summer."
Sealey says Logan View hosted the 7 on 7 league with some other teams the last few weeks of July.
Sealey adds the co-op is going smooth and great.
I think the Raiders have a chance to be successful this year. LVSS returns a lot of talent from both schools, and team chemistry appears to be very strong.
I think the Raiders have a chance to make the playoffs again, despite a very challenging schedule.
Season Outlook:
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder has moved up from C-2, or D-2 if you may, to C-1. Sealey says there's a lot of optimism around camp. "With the new co-op and moving up a class it is going to be fun to see how our kids respond in the 2018 season. We are a young and experienced group. We will have a veteran offensive and defensive line with athletes around them. We are excited for a new year. "
The Raiders open up the season next Friday at Fremont Bergan before hosting North Bend Central the second week of the season.
Sealey says those two games are critical. "I think it's important to win early for a number of reasons. But just the morale of your football team I think. When you win you get confidence. When you get confidence you play faster, you play better. And you just trust yourself and the people around you that much more. And it leads to better results typically."
LVSS has tough non-district games against Boys Town and Columbus Scotus, in addition to District Games with Boone Central/Newman Grove, Pierce, West Point-Beemer, and Wayne.
The Raiders definitely have their work cut out for them, there's no doubt about it.
Sealey says the team that plays the best in each game wins. "It's not always the most talented team that wins all the time, it's the team that does better. And we just want to put ourselves in a position to compete and be in the game."
Sealey says there hasn't been much of a difference with the Scribner-Snyder kids moving up to C-1 from D-2.
He adds the goal is to win a playoff game this year.
Sealey says he and the players are ready to get the ball rolling. "It's just a new team and I'm excited to see what they can do. I mean we've got a bunch of talented guys. A lot of them have played a lot of football, and now they're going to get an opportunity to showcase what they really got against some good teams. And if we're worthy to be in the same category as some people put teams that we're playing in. And it's going to be challenging, but I'm just curious to see how we respond to the situations and the teams we play."
Bob Jensen from the Huskerland Prep Report feels the Raiders have the potential to be good. "Logan View's going to be good. He's produced a lot of good football teams in his young career. Brady Hull is an exceptional football player. Again, I think he's All-State caliber. I think he'll be in that conversation before it's all over. I just wonder about the depth, but at the same time they have a lot of starters coming back. They've got 8 or 9 on both sides of the ball. I expect the merged program to be just fine, that part's going to work out. How they can deal with especially their strong district schedule will tell the tale."
I think LVSS could go anywhere from 3-6 to 6-3. I think it just depends on how well they execute on offense, how well they tackle, how well they take care of the ball, and if they can limit penalties.
There's not really going to be a lot of room for error in some games for the Raiders so LVSS has to play mistake free football as much as possible, and be ready to go hard for four quarters.
There are a lot of talented teams in Class C-1, and I think the Raiders will mix and blend right in with some of the traditional powers.
I think LVSS will be in just about every game they play. I don't think you'll see the Raiders get blown out in many games if at all this season.
