Wisner-Pilger wins opener over Cross County
The Wisner-Pilger Football Team won their opener Friday night, defeating Cross County 50-34 on the road.
I know they're 8-man now, but winning that first game had to feel so good for the Gators.
Wisner-Pilger (1-0) plays host to East Butler (0-1) Friday night.
The defending D-1 champs lost 68-14 at home to GACC last week.
Before the season started I looked at this game as perhaps being a loss for the Gators, and it could be, but I think after seeing the results of Week 1, Wisner-Pilger has a great chance to win.
The Gators have to be confident and must feel optimistic about their chances and abilities.
Wisner-Pilger has to continue to put points on the board and has to keep working to improve defensively.
The Gators have to be physical at the line of scrimmage, and must run and defend the run well.
Wisner-Pilger has to play hard, smart, and physical, and get fired up and motivated to play the defending champs.
The Tigers played at Memorial Stadium last year, and the Gators have to be chomping at the bit and licking their chops to play these guys.
You have a perennial C-2 team welcoming in the defending D-1 champs. Sounds like Gator time and bait to me.
Wisner-Pilger has to run the ball hard and with a full head of steam.
I said it once and I'll say it again, big hits are nice, but wrapping up is key.
The Gators have to create some turnovers to set up short fields for themselves as well.
Jumping routes and taking chances are going to be important for Wisner-Pilger as well, in my opinion.
The Gators have to be awfully jacked for this one.
I think Wisner-Pilger has to feel pretty good about things this year, at least a lot better than they have in recent years.
The Gators just have to continue to make strides and gain confidence.
Winning helps that, and if Wisner-Pilger can be undefeated heading into the GACC game on September 21st who knows what the Gators can do in that game.
One game at a time though as I'm sure East Butler has Wisner-Pilger's full attention.
