Tekamah-Herman drops season opener against Ponca
The Tekamah-Herman Football Team came up a little short Friday night, falling 36-8 at home to Ponca in the season opener.
The Indians led 22-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, and shutout the Tigers 8-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 30-0 lead into the locker room.
Tekamah-Herman won the 4th quarter 8-6 after a scoreless 3rd quarter.
Gage Drummond and Cody Elliot made 13 tackles apiece while Luke Wakehouse had 10. Chauncey Rogers, Garrison Potadle, and Brandon Schram each recorded 9 apiece while Tristan Metzger and Kasey Snyder racked up 7 each.
I thought it was a great effort from the Tigers, they just came up short.
Tekamah-Herman (0-1) takes on Stanton (1-0) on the road Friday night.
The Mustangs won 45-43 at David City last week.
I think that game shows the Tigers can compete and score points on Stanton.
I feel Tekamah-Herman has a chance to make things interesting, and possibly pull off the upset.
I was expecting more out of the Mustangs in Week 1, especially from their defense, but they struggled, and so the Tigers must take advantage.
Tekamah-Herman has go out there and be electrified and ready to take it to Stanton for 4 quarters.
This is another chance for the Tigers to win and shine, and show what they can do.
Tekamah-Herman has to have good tackling like they had against Ponca.
A lot of kids struck the high number of tackles column, and I look for that to continue this week.
What it really comes and boils down to is the Tigers playing fearless and to win.
Tekamah-Herman can't be afraid to fail on a particular play. If the Tigers struggle on a given play they have to forget about it and move on to the next play.
Not dwelling on past mistakes and mishaps is going to be important for Tekamah-Herman, in my opinion.
The Tigers need to have a quick memory, and forget about the bad and move on to the next play.
Tekamah-Herman has to play smart, aggressive, and hard nosed football.
The Tigers have to be ready to play 4 quarters of football, and must put forth their best and maximum effort at all times.
I also feel it's imperative for Tekamah-Herman not to dig themselves an early hole.
Getting down 22-0 against the Indians doomed the Tigers, in my opinion.
Hopefully Tekamah-Herman got that out of their system and is ready to go Friday night because there's a big opportunity at stake for the Tigers.
Tekamah-Herman has to create some momentum and play a good game not only to win this one, but their next two games as well which look very winnable to me.
