Winnebago crushes Pender in season opener
The Winnebago Indians started off the season in impressive fashion Friday night, downing Pender 50-14 on the road in the season opener.
Winnebago led 12-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, and outscored the Pendragons 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 26-6 lead into the locker room.
The Indians blanked Pender 18-0 in the 3rd quarter to get out to a 44-6 lead at the end of three.
The Pendragons won the 4th quarter 8-6.
The defense surrendered 210 yards of total offense, including 132 on the ground.
Great team win for the Indians. Winnebago was very solid defensively, and I'm sure they were great offensively as well.
The Indians (1-0) take on Lutheran High Northeast (0-0) on the road Friday night.
The Eagles drop down from C-2, and figure to be a very good football team.
I think already playing a game benefits Winnebago, but LHNE figures to be tough.
As well as the Indians played against Pender, they're going to need to play even better against the Eagles.
Winnebago has to be ready to be physical at the line of scrimmage, and stop the run as well as the pass.
I thought the Indians were solid in stopping the run Friday night, but they're going to need to be even better against LHNE.
Winnebago has to be mentally and physically ready to play and go.
Prosper Gilpin, Tyrese Gorrin, and T.J. Frenchman as well as Robbie Lovejoy all need to have big games for the Indians.
Winnebago has to be well conditioned so they can find and have that extra gear in the 4th quarter.
You can bet the Eagles will be in great shape, and will try and wear down the Indians with their power run game.
Winnebago has to be ready to answer the call and bell, and must find something extra when they think they don't have anything left.
The Indians have to play with a ton of pride and must be ready for the big stage.
Memorial Field is a historic field, and Winnebago has to do their best to write some history at that field.
It would be something if the Indians went in there and pulled out a victory.
It doesn't figure to be easy, but anything can happen.
The biggest thing for Winnebago is to stay level headed.
The Indians can't get all cocky and big headed, and think they're just going to easily roll the Eagles.
Winnebago has to work hard for their points and stops just like they did in the opener against the Pendragons.
