BRLD competes well at Crofton, but drops game
The BRLD Football team lost 29-8 at Crofton Friday night.
The Wolverines jumped out to an 8-0 first quarter lead then allowed the Warriors to score 14 second quarter points and go up 14-8 at halftime.
Crofton added 7 points in the third quarter to lead 21-8 at the end of three, and totaled 8 fourth quarter points to make up the final score.
It wasn't a win, but I felt like BRLD did a really nice job of competing with the Warriors.
The Wolverines (0-2) host Ponca (2-0) Friday night.
The Indians won 64-21 at Tekamah-Herman this past Friday night.
Very tricky game for BRLD with another tough opponent on the docket, but I look for the Wolverines to hang tough with Ponca.
The Wolverines only lost 43-36 to the Indians last year so that has to help for confidence purposes heading into this one.
If BRLD can get off to a fast start again and get their offense going and finish strong...they may have a chance at a win.
Easier said that done, but the Wolverines have to be encouraged by the way they played last week despite the loss.
Even if BRLD doesn't win this week they should have a good chance to knock off Omaha Brownell-Talbot next week.
I thought the Wolverines improved quite a bit from game one to game two so if BRLD can make more progress from game two to game three then that's a sign that things are moving forward and in the right direction.
The schedule is very tough to start out with for the Wolverines, but BRLD will only get better as the season progresses, in my opinion.
The Wolverines must figure out their offense though. It's going to be tough for BRLD to win any game scoring in single digits, especially against the caliber of opponents they're playing.
I have to give the Wolverines a break though...Hartington Cedar Catholic and Crofton have very strong defenses.
Defense also appears to be the strength of this BRLD team so perhaps the Wolverines will be able to hold Ponca's offense at bay.
I look for Friday night's game to be relatively low scoring with BRLD putting up a good fight.
The Wolverines may not win, but I think BRLD can have a good showing in their first home game of the season in Bancroft.
The Wolverines just have to focus on being physical and hitting hard with these heavyweights on their schedule.
I think these first games of the season will only help and make BRLD a stronger team later on down the line.
