West Point-Beemer rolls Wisner-Pilger
The West Point-Beemer Football team continued their winning ways Friday night, downing Wisner-Pilger 54-0 at home.
Hunter Pilakowski ran the ball 8 times for 127 yards, and scored two touchdowns.
Head Coach Troy Schlueter says Pilakowski is a huge asset to the team. "Hunter is a fun kid to coach, and we've enjoyed watching his physical style of play, and the passion he has for the game. He's very valuable to this team because of his constant effort and toughness."
Gage Vance made 8 tackles to lead the team.
The Cadets had 275 yards of total offense, including 251 on the ground.
Schlueter says beating Wisner-Pilger is a big deal, but adds his team wants to play well against everyone. "We really try to look at every game in a similar fashion, because we are looking for a level of play that we'll be proud of at the end of the night. I think we hit that at times during the Wisner game, but we are still looking for more consistency in our play."
West Point-Beemer (3-0) travels to Fort Calhoun (2-1) to take on the Pioneers Friday night.
Fort Calhoun lost 42-6 at home to Columbus Lakeview last time out.
That coming a week after they blew out Louisville 42-7 on the road. The same Louisville team that won at North Bend Central in Week 1.
Based on scores of common opponents one would have to give the advantage to the Pioneers, but based on last week's games you'd have to give the edge to the Cadets.
West Point-Beemer has looked great in two of their games, and solid in the other I would say.
The Cadets just have to build off the Wisner-Pilger win, and play at an even higher level Friday night.
Schlueter says tackling well and keeping everything in front of them is critical in this game. "We feel like Fort Calhoun is a very good team with some explosive athletes. We feel like we're going to have to run the ball well and tackle well in space to have a successful night this Friday."
This success West Point-Beemer is having doesn't come without hard work and dedication.
Schlueter says the kids have gotten bigger and stronger in his time leading the Cadets, and that's allowed them to have the success they're having now. "A combination of things, but a big ingredient was the work the kids put in during weight room sessions over the past couple years that allows them to be confident in their abilities."
He adds there's a lot of excitement around the program. "All I know is we're excited, and typically that spreads pretty quickly."
There's certainly reason to get pretty excited about West Point-Beemer Football given how the season has gone so far.
But work and the job is not done yet. There's a long ways to go yet this season.
The Cadets have Fort Calhoun and defending C-1 champ O'Neill the next two weeks so West Point-Beemer certainly figures to be challenged.
We'll find out just how good and for real the Cadets are. I think West Point-Beemer is a very good and legit team, and the real deal, but we will find out for sure these next two weeks.
These next two games will be the Cadets' toughest two of the season so far without a doubt.
West Point-Beemer has passed every test so far though, and there's no doubt in my mind the Cadets can win this Friday night at Fort Calhoun, and next week at home against the Eagles.
