Emerson-Hubbard drops opener to Hartington-Newcastle

The Emerson-Hubbard Football Team lost 50-12 at home to Hartington-Newcastle Friday night.

Neither team scored in the 1st quarter. The Wildcats won the second quarter 14-6, and led by that score at halftime.

Hartington-Newcastle shutout the Pirates 22-0 in the third quarter, and led 36-6 at the end of three.

The Wildcats outscored Emerson-Hubbard 14-6 in the 4th quarter.

This had to be a tough defeat to take for the Pirates given how they competed in the 1st half. The second half, the third quarter in particular, had to be disappointing to say the least.

Emerson-Hubbard (0-1) travels to Scribner to take on Scribner-Snyder (0-2) Friday night.

The Trojans lost 58-14 at Bloomfield Thursday night, a game that saw Scribner-Snyder trail 50-6 at halftime.

The Trojans had issues slowing down the run game, but had a fairly decent game running the ball.

Quarterback Austin Peters rushed for over 100 yards behind Scribner-Snyder's big offensive line.

I think whoever wins the battle in the trenches wins the game.

It all starts up front, and the Pirates have to find a way to put a hat on a hat, and move the ball and stuff the run.

I don't know what Emerson-Hubbard's offensive stats were like Friday night, but the Pirates have to be more effective putting the ball in the end zone and on defense in general.

Emerson-Hubbard gave up 266 yards rushing and 171 passing to Hartington-Newcastle. The good news for the Pirates is the Trojans don't have a strong passing game.

Emerson-Hubbard can solely focus on slowing down Scribner-Snyder's run game, and force the Trojans to pass.

If the Pirates can make the Trojans one dimensional they should have a good chance to win.

Emerson-Hubbard has to contend with Scribner-Snyder's running game, but the Pirates should be able to pick up their first win of the year.

I would say Hartington-Newcastle is a stronger team than the Trojans.

Scribner-Snyder isn't a bad team though, and beating them won't be an easy cakewalk by any means.

Emerson-Hubbard has to come ready to play a complete game, and can't have a second half collapse like they did against the Wildcats.

The Trojans are low on numbers so if the Pirates can wear down the top 8 or 9 guys on the team Emerson-Hubbard should be good to go.

The Pirates have to come ready to play, and must take it to Scribner-Snyder for four quarters at a relentless pace.

Emerson-Hubbard can't come into the game thinking they have it in the bag already because if they do that then the Trojans stand a good chance of picking up the win.

The Pirates really need this game with Humphrey St. Francis coming to town next week.
