Wisner-Pilger shutout at West Point-Beemer

The Wisner-Pilger Football team lost 54-0 at West Point-Beemer Friday night.

The Gators surrendered 275 yards of total offense, including 251 on the ground.

It has been a tough season so far for the Gators. Not what they were hoping for I'm sure.

It’s a tale of two different seasons when high school football returns to 107.9 The Bull on Friday, as 0-3 Wisner-Pilger plays host to 3-0 Hartington Cedar Catholic.

Wisner-Pilger Head Coach A.J. Burki says the fewer mistakes, the better. “We’re gonna have to make sure we limit our mistakes,” Burki said. “Make sure that we take of the ball and try to control the clock as much as we can when we can, and forcing them to drive the whole field.”

Trojans head coach Chad Cattau says controlling the line of scrimmage will be important. “I think we need to control the line of scrimmage on both sides. If we can do that, usually we have pretty good success,” Cattau said. “If we can limit their penetration when we have the ball, and if we can get some stops on their running game and put them behind the chains and make them throw the ball, I think good things will happen for us.”

Hartington CC has been rolling so far, outscoring opponents 140-26 in its first three games.

I'm thinking it's likely that trend continues Friday night. The Gators are in a transition year and a work in progress while the Trojans are an established powerhouse.

Wisner-Pilger has just had a tough go of things so far, but is trying to improve and get better.

The Gators have just had a very tough schedule so far, and unfortunately it doesn't let up in the next few weeks.

Wisner-Pilger plays a lot of not just good, but great teams this year, and so far the Gators just haven't been able to match up and stack up well against anyone.

Wisner-Pilger has to be much better on offense than they have been. Someone has to step up and make plays for the Gators. Wisner-Pilger won't win any games not scoring, and hardly any scoring just 6 points.

The Gators have been outscored 103-6 in their first three games, and it's simply difficult to win games when you're getting outplayed like that.

Something needs to change and change quickly for Wisner-Pilger if they are to have any chance of saving this season.

Kickoff between the Gators and Trojans is set for 7:00 on Friday in Wisner. Coverage will begin with the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Pregame Show at 6:40. Listen live on 107.9 FM, online at kticradio.com and on the free KTIC Radio app.
