Winnebago loses at Plainview
The Winnebago Football team lost 52-12 at Plainview Friday night.
The Pirates doubled up the Indians 12-6 in the 1st quarter. Plainview shutout Winnebago 20-0 in the second quarter to go up 32-6 at halftime.
The Pirates won the third quarter 8-6 to lead 40-12 at the end of three.
Plainview blanked the Indians 12-0 in the 4th quarter.
Winnebago allowed 354 yards of offense, 250 coming on the ground.
Run defense was definitely an issue for the Indians in this game. Winnebago's offense was also held in check or so it appears.
The Indians (0-2) take on Johnson-Brock (1-1) on the road Friday night.
The Eagles lost 60-42 at home to Nebraska Lutheran this past Friday night.
Johnson-Brock was a playoff team last year, losing to Howells-Dodge in the first round.
I would say the Eagles will be the toughest team Winnebago has faced all year when the two take to the field Friday night.
The Indians have to be very wary of Cole Fossenbarger. He accounted for 440 yards of total offense in the Nebraska Lutheran game.
This is going to be a very difficult game for Winnebago, in my opinion.
It's a long road trip against a tough team, but somehow someway the Indians have to rise up and play a good game against a very difficult opponent.
The schedule doesn't lighten up until October so Winnebago has to come out ready to play in these next three games in particular.
The Indians have a tough road ahead of them, but to be the best you have to beat the best, and that certainly has to be on Winnebago's minds come Friday night.
I'm sure it's tough having no chance of making the playoffs, but the Indians have to remember they're playing for school pride and to learn valuable life lessons along the way.
This game down in Southeast Nebraska could very well serve as a teaching moment for these kids.
Johnson-Brock is a quality team, and the Indians' offense and defense is going to have to step up to the task if Winnebago is to have any shot in this game.
The Indians have to forget about what took place against Plainview. All they can do now is move on and focus on the Eagles.
Winnebago has to come out ready to play and must believe if they can win. If the Indians are thinking oh shoot we're going all the way down there against this tough team and we're going to lose, then Winnebago is going to get blown out.
But if the Indians go down there with a winning mindset and an attitude that they can win then the game should be much more competitive.
The biggest thing for Winnebago is to go down there and have fun, play hard, and hit even harder. The Indians have to go down there and give Johnson-Brock a dose of what Northeast Nebraska Football is all about.
