Winnebago loses at Johnson Brock
The Winnebago Football team lost 64-28 at Johnson-Brock Friday night.
The Eagles doubled up the Indians 16-8 in the 1st quarter before Johnson-Brock outscored Winnebago 20-6 in the second quarter to lead 36-14 at halftime.
The Eagles blanked the Indians 22-0 in the third quarter to go up 58-14 at the end of three.
Winnebago won the fourth quarter 14-6.
Johnson-Brock totaled 500 yards of offense, 275 coming on the ground.
Tough night for the Indians, but I think how the fourth quarter went shows Winnebago never gave up.
The Indians (0-3) take on Hartington-Newcastle (2-1) on the road Friday night.
The Wildcats lost 54-18 at home to Wakefield last time out.
I must say I was a bit surprised Hartington-Newcastle lost the way they did based on the fact they blew out Emerson-Hubbard 50-12 the week before.
So perhaps Winnebago will be able to compete with the Wildcats and keep things respectable.
The Indians simply have to keep fighting and persevering. Winnebago can't throw in the towel and give up. That would be the easy thing to do.
The Indians have to keep working and playing hard, and continue to get better and progress every week.
I thought Winnebago actually did fairly well against Johnson-Brock with the exception of the third quarter.
I feel there are things for the Indians to take away from and build on that game.
Winnebago has faced a fairly tough schedule so far, and it doesn't get any easier this week, but the Indians lost by fewer points to Wakefield than Hartington-Newcastle did so perhaps this week's game will be close and competitive.
I think this game has a shot to be close. I could see it coming down to the wire.
Winnebago has to keep fighting and working no matter what. No matter what the time and score says on the scoreboard the Indians have to keep playing like the score is 0-0.
The defense has to step up and get off the field.
Winnebago won't win many games giving up over 50 and 60 points a game.
The offense has been fairly consistent so far, but the defense has been suspect at best.
If the Indians can get their defense figured out they might be able to turn their season around and win a few games.
I think at least a couple of wins are coming Winnebago's way yet this season, but the Indians have to want to do better than 2-6. Winnebago has to be thinking win out and build for next season.
The competition is tough, but to be the best you have to beat the best, and so the Indians have to keep at it and get through these tough times. Tough times only make you stronger in the end, and that certainly applies to the Winnebago Football Team.
