North Bend Central shuts out Tekamah-Herman at home
North Bend-The North Bend Central Football team cruised to a 47-0 home win over Tekamah-Herman Friday night.
Jacob Ray got the scoring started for North Bend Central in the 1st quarter, running one in from 34 yards out at the 9:18 mark to make it a 7-0 game in favor of NBC.
Austin Endorf then hit Joel Hines on a 7-yard TD pass with 9:20 left to go in the 2nd quarter to put North Bend Central up 14-0.
Endorf then hit James Seymour on a 22-yard TD pass with 22 seconds left until halftime to give NBC a 21-0 lead.
Endorf found John Emanuel on a 10-yard TD pass that made it a 28-0 contest in favor of North Bend Central with 9:29 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Later in the quarter, Ray plunged in from a yard out to give NBC a commanding 34-0 lead with about 3 minutes left to go in the 3rd quarter.
Peter Emanuel then broke loose for 67 yards at the 10:36 mark of the 4th quarter, and North Bend Central went up 41-0.
Endorf hit Peter Emanuel for a 70-yard strike to put the finishing touches on the win for North Bend Central.
Endorf was 22-32 passing for 373 yards and 4 touchdowns for North Bend Central (1-2).
Ray carried the ball 8 times for 72 yards, scoring once while Peter Emanuel ran the ball twice for 72 yards, and scored a TD.
North Bend Central amassed 511 yards of total offense, including 373 rushing while holding Tekamah-Herman to just 53 yards of total offense.
Head Coach Ryan Stieren says the game was a tale of two halfs. "I am definitely happy for our kids because we have had back-to-back close losses. The first half was really sloppy as we had some penalties and bad snaps that really slowed us down. But, I feel that we came out in the second half and played a good clean half."
Stieren. "In the first half especially we didn't look real sharp, but I think the second half we came out and cleaned some things up a little bit, and we finished the game. Played hard all night long, and it's a good win for us on Homecoming night."
North Bend Central is at Madison (0-3) Friday night.
The Dragons lost 62-0 at Ord this past Friday night.
Madison also lost 18-14 to Tekamah-Herman in the season opener so you would think NBC would roll in this game.
Stieren says his team depends a lot on the passing game. "Our young quarterback Austin Endorf he's worked really, really hard for 6-7 months on this stuff. And he's a smart player. Sometimes it's hard for us to get the run game going. So we really do, we try to spread the ball out and get it to our playmakers on the edge. We've had some success with it. We got to continue to try and work on our run game, and get that going a little bit. We got it going a little bit tonight, but I think we can even expand on that."
The Tigers are probably okay being one dimensional and beating the Dragons, but North Bend Central has to develop a run game this week and in practice during the bye week next week prior to the Wahoo game on Friday, September 29th.
The Tigers aren't going to beat the Wahoo Schools and David City Aquinas with just a passing game. Those teams are too good to get beat without North Bend Central having a run game.
Someone has to step up and take charge in the offensive backfield.
I don't know who it's going to be, but the Tigers need to figure out their running game quickly.
North Bend Central still needs to pass often though because it has really worked up to this point.
The Tigers just need to mix in the run game to have balance.
Endorf needs to have another big showcase game for North Bend Central, but again the Tigers have to get the run game going against the Dragons.
There's no better team to work on things against than Madison.
North Bend Central should roll in this game regardless, but I feel what the Tigers do in this game from an offensive standpoint is going to have an effect on games in District Play.
So this game is important beyond just the game itself. I feel this is a game North Bend Central has to iron out any chinks left in the armor, and be ready to go and at full strength come district play.
I think the off week next week is going to really help the Tigers get rested up for district play. I feel North Bend Central can narrow the gap and play the aforementioned schools closer than they did last year. But again, the Tigers have to develop a run game over the next couple of weeks to have any chance against the three.
