Tekamah-Herman loses at home to Ponca

The Tekamah-Herman Football team lost 64-21 at home to Ponca Friday night.

The Indians led 24-7 at the end of one and won the second quarter 24-14 to lead 48-21 at halftime.

Ponca blanked the Tigers 16-0 in the third quarter to make up the final score as no one scored in the 4th quarter.

Clay Beaumont was 8-17 passing for 220 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Brandon Schram caught 6 passes for 195 yards with two touchdowns.

Tekamah-Herman had 234 yards of total offense, 220 coming on the ground.

Very good effort in the passing game for the Tigers, and if Tekamah-Herman had been able to run the ball and control the clock more I think the game would of been closer than it was.

Tekamah-Herman (1-1) travels to North Bend Central (0-2) Friday night in action that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull.

North Bend Central lost 35-20 at West Point-Beemer this past Friday night.

Head Coach Graig McElmuray says hanging on to the football and slowing down North Bend's offense will be keys to the game.

"Ball security and make them drive. They have to drive the ball in order to score. If we allow big plays to score, then it's gonna be a rough night for us. If we can make them drive, make them go the length of the field, make them take more than three or four plays to score on us, I like our chances," McElmuray said. "If we give up big plays and let them pass on us and let them do things of that nature, it could be ugly for us that way."

North Bend Central is a lot like Tekamah-Herman in that they have a strong passing game, but haven't shown much semblance of a running game so far this season.

This could definitely be a longer game with both teams airing the ball out and passing a lot.

Tekamah-Herman has to give Beaumont a lot of time in the pocket, and the defense must get a good pass rush on North Bend Central Quarterback Austin Endorf.

Getting separation at receiver and having a tight pass defense will be critical for Tekamah-Herman as well, in my opinion.

North Bend Central won last year's game 35-13, but I think Tekamah-Herman is a stronger team than they were a year ago, and I'm not so sure that North Bend Central is as good as they were last year.

North Bend Central was very competitive in both of their games so far this season though while Tekamah-Herman struggled to beat Madison and was blown out by Ponca you could say.

North Bend Central might have the advantage up front so Tekamah-Herman has to work very hard in the trenches to get guys blocked and open up passing lanes for Beaumont.

With that said, it would be a big deal for Tekamah-Herman to have a winning record heading into next Friday's game at Doniphan-Trumbull.

I think Tekamah-Herman has a shot to be really competitive and win a number of their games the rest of the season.

The Doniphan-Trumbull, Fremont Bergan, and Oakland-Craig games appear to be really tough, but the rest of the games should be good for Tekamah-Herman.

The most important thing for Tekamah-Herman is to keep working hard and get better.

I thought Tekamah-Herman's offense improved from week 1 to week 2, now it's just a matter of getting both the offense and defense on the same page.

Perhaps things will come together for Tekamah-Herman in this game. A second win over a C-1 foe would definitely be a big deal for this program.

North Bend Central figures to be quite a bit tougher than Madison though, but I'm sure Tekamah-Herman is up to the task and challenge of picking up the win.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. with pregame at 6:40 on 107.9 the Bull.
