Hunter Pilakowski ran wild on the Tigers, amassing 305 yards on 29 carries and scoring three touchdowns. Kirby Hughes added 95 yards rushing on 8 carries, scoring once.
Kade Hughes led the way with 9 tackles.
The Cadets tallied 510 yards of total offense, including 485 rushing.
The defense gave up 187 yards of total offense, including 195 passing.
That means West Point-Beemer gave up -8 yards rushing. WOW!
Nice win for the Cadets, and now West Point-Beemer has a chance to move to 3-0 with a win over Wisner-Pilger Friday night.
The Cadets (2-0) host the Gators (0-2).
Wisner-Pilger lost 28-6 at Stanton last week, a game they trailed just 6-0 at halftime and 14-0 after three.
The Gators also only lost to Crofton 21-0.
So what I'm saying is Wisner-Pilger has potential.
Their offense has struggled, but the Gators can't ever be counted out of a game given how strong a defensive team they are.
The Mustangs ran for 294 yards on Wisner-Pilger, but Stanton is a pretty good, physical team last time I checked.
West Point-Beemer is also a very good, physical team too, and given the kind of success the Cadets had on the ground against North Bend Central last week...one has to think West Point-Beemer has a pretty good shot of running wild on the Gators too.
Pilakowski has to continue to do his thing, and the offensive line has to continue to be physical and open up running lanes for him.
The Cadets have a very tough road game at Fort Calhoun next week, but West Point-Beemer can't get caught looking ahead to the Pioneers.
The Cadets have to be solely focused on Wisner-Pilger, and committed to stuffing the Gators' run game and making them one dimensional.
This is a game West Point-Beemer not only needs to win, but win big to get ready for next week.
Nothing is a given given the nature of this rivalry, but given how both teams' seasons have gone so far you have to give the advantage to the Cadets, especially since they are at home.
A 3-0 start would be huge for this West Point-Beemer program, which I truly believe is headed in the right direction.
The Cadets are building a solid foundation, and the program can get built even more with another win over Wisner-Pilger Friday night.
West Point-Beemer only won 7-6 last year though so the Gators certainly have the potential to keep this one close.
The Cadets would like to win big, but don't be surprised if this game is closer than what some might expect it to be.
