Pender loses big at home to CWCE
The Pender Football team lost 52-16 at home to CWCE last Friday night.
The Renegades led 14-8 after one. CWCE blanked the Pendragons 8-0 in the second quarter to take a 22-8 lead into the locker room.
The Renegades shutout Pender 22-0 in the third quarter to make it a 44-8 lead at the end of three.
Both teams scored 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Brady Oliver was 15-31 passing for 148 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Jared Tyrell hauled in 4 passes for 79 yards, and scored a touchdown.
Jaydon Jump racked up 12 tackles while Oliver and Layne Heese totaled 10 and 7, respectively.
The Pendragons totaled 142 yards of offense, including 148 passing.
CWCE had 247 yards of offense, 232 coming on the ground.
Turnovers and the ground game were the difference in this one I would say.
Pender (1-1) travels to Wakefield (3-0) to take on the Trojans Friday night.
Wakefield won 54-18 at Hartington-Newcastle this past Friday night.
All of the Trojans' games have been on the road so far so this game with the Pendragons is the first of four in a row for Wakefield.
These two are rivals, and you can bet the Trojans will be up for Pender.
This should be a good game, and I definitely think the Pendragons can win.
Pender just has to be able to run the football and stop Wakefield's run game.
It all starts up front for the Pendragons, and Pender has to be the tougher and more physical team at the line of scrimmage.
The team that wins the battle up front could very well be the team that wins the game.
With that said, Oliver has to be effective in the passing game, and has to take care of the ball.
I don't know if the Pendragons can win with him throwing three interceptions.
I have to give Oliver a break though....the Renegades are a very good football team.
The Trojans aren't nearly as tough and talented as CWCE I would say, but still a tough team and a formidable foe.
Pender has to be ready to go, and has to play their best game of the season.
The Pendragons have had an extra week of prep and practice time for Wakefield, so I think that's a huge plus and advantage for the boys in red and white.
No excuses...Pender has to find a way to get the job done.
You talk about being a great team and taking the next steps in your program...these are the kinds of games you must win.
This game is for bragging rights for the next year, and the loser will most likely not hear the end of it for awhile.
This should be a good close game that could come down to a single drive or play, and I think the team that ultimately makes the fewest mistakes will find a way to come out on top.
