The Howells-Dodge Football team won 38-6 at Osmond Friday night.

Howells-Dodge 02:36 #10 Darrin Pokorny runs for 14 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion run by #3 Josh Brester good)
Horejsi led the Jaguars with 116 yards rushing on 30 carries and three touchdowns.
Head Coach Mike Speirs credits both him and the offensive line for the production. "I think our offensive line did a good job of adjusting to Osmond and gave Dylan some good running lanes. Osmond had some very active linebackers and our guards did a nice job of getting them blocked. Dylan is a strong running back and when he makes the correct reads, he will get yards."
Van Lengen was 8-16 passing for 86 yards with two interceptions.
Kade Hegemann led the way with 16 tackles while Ryan Macholan totaled 9. Jordan Brichacek and Jon Yosten added 7 apiece.
Howells-Dodge amassed 244 yards of total offense, including 158 rushing.
The defense gave up 106 yards of offense, all on the ground.
Speirs says his defense turned in a solid performance. "Our defense did a nice job of reading their keys, and we were able to slow Osmond down. We did have a couple of breakdowns and allowed a few big plays, but it was mistakes in reading our keys. As we get better at those reads we will get better at defense."
Speirs adds it was difficult for his team to get up for Osmond. "Well, to be honest, I was not happy with our focus for the Osmond game. A game like East Butler is such an emotional game that it is difficult for kids to get re-focused. I am sure our kids had spent all off season thinking about the East Butler game, so it is hard, in a few days, to get that re-focus back. I think our kids did all they could to focus on Osmond, but it was a learning experience for them."
The Jaguars (2-0) travel to Macy to take on Omaha Nation (1-1) Friday night.
Speirs says his squad has to be ready to go against the Chiefs. "We have talked all week about where our focus needs to be. Omaha Nation always has talented, physical kids. The key for us is playing hard from the beginning and making sure we are prepared both physically and mentally."
The Chiefs lost 70-30 at Neligh-Oakdale this past Friday night.
I don't think Howells-Dodge will have much trouble with Omaha Nation. The Jaguars still have to come out ready to play though, and must be ready to take care of business.
Howells-Dodge has to be ready to lay down the hammer and smackdown on the Chiefs. The Jaguars have to be relentless with their play come Friday night.
I think you will see a re-energized and focused Howells-Dodge team take the field.
The Jaguars just need to get off to a stronger start than they did against the Tigers. I thought Howells-Dodge played well in the second quarter and finished strong against Osmond, but I think the Jaguars could have started faster.
The good news is Howells-Dodge is on pace to have another very fine season, and appears to be in pretty good shape at this point.
Speirs adds it's been a good start to the season, but there's a ways to go yet. "We are happy with how we have started, but feel we have a lot of improving to do over the course of the season. It will be important for us to see that improvement each week to accomplish our goals."
I think the big thing for the Jaguars is continuing to get solid play in the run game from Horejsi. Howells-Dodge needs him to keep producing to be successful, in my opinion.
Van Lengen also needs to be consistent and get things going in the passing game if this team is to take things to the next level, also in my opinion.
The Jaguars put a lot of energy and preparation into the East Butler game, and were probably somewhat mentally drained heading into the Osmond contest so hopefully Howells-Dodge will be fresh and ready to go this week, which they should be.
Championship teams dominate the teams they're supposed to dominate, and that's what the Jaguars must do against the Chiefs this week.
Howells-Dodge has to go out there and hit hard and show no mercy to Omaha Nation.
The Jaguars must put forth their best effort and play a good game.
It's important for Howells-Dodge to be sharp heading into the off week next week, in my opinion.
