Emerson-Hubbard defeats Scribner-Snyder
The Emerson-Hubbard Pirates won 42-20 at home over Scribner-Snyder Friday night.
The Pirates led 14-0 at the end of one, and after neither team scored in the second quarter, took a 14-0 lead into the locker room.
The Trojans outscored Emerson-Hubbard 20-12 in the third quarter to make it a 26-20 game at the end of three.
The Pirates won the fourth quarter 16-0.
Emerson-Hubbard gave up 362 yards of total offense, including 342 on the ground.
The Pirates did a nice job in picking up their first win of the year. Emerson-Hubbard came through when the game was on the line, and when things mattered most, so give credit to the Pirates for a job well done.
Emerson-Hubbard (1-1) is at defending state champion Humphrey St. Francis (3-0) Friday night.
The Flyers won 66-34 at Wynot last time out, and appear to be a wrecking crew again this year.
I don't know what the Pirates can do to upset Humphrey St. Francis, but Emerson-Hubbard has to go into the game with confidence.
The only way you slay a giant is by believing, and the Pirates can't be scared of or intimidated by the Flyers.
Emerson-Hubbard's defense has to come up big, and the offense has to do their part as well.
The Pirates can't have a performance like they did against Hartington-Newcastle if they expect to compete and win.
Emerson-Hubbard needs to get off to a fast start, and must finish strong.
All four quarters need to go well for the Pirates to have a shot, in my opinion.
Humphrey St. Francis is tough, there's no doubt about it, but the Pirates have to play optimistic football.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be physical at the point of attack, and must run the ball with authority as well as slow down the Flyers' run game.
Wynot had 453 yards of total offense against the Flyers so it just goes to show the Pirates can also move the ball and score on Humphrey St. Francis.
Emerson-Hubbard has to avoid turnovers if they hope to have a chance in this game I would also say.
