Oakland-Craig slips up against Battle Creek
The Oakland-Craig Knights lost 21-12 at home to Battle Creek Friday night.
After neither team scored in the first quarter, the Braves outscored the Knights 7-6 in the second quarter to lead by that score at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. Battle Creek won the fourth quarter 14-6 to make up the final score.
Hoss Smith toted the rock 20 times for 84 yards. Evan Reinert was 11-24 passing for 139 yards with two touchdowns.
Garrett Seagren hauled in 3 passes for 54 yards, including two touchdowns.
Josh Dixon made 11 tackles while Robby Mayberry and Marcos Quintero totaled 8 and 7, respectively.
Oakland-Craig outgained Battle Creek 279-240 in total yardage.
I think the biggest difference in the game was the Braves slowed down Hoss Smith. He didn't go off like he did against Malcolm, and if he had the game could of been a different story.
The Knights (1-1) have another tough game Friday night at Crofton (2-0).
The Warriors downed BRLD 37-20 on the road last time out.
Crofton is a good team, but I look for Oakland-Craig to bounce back with a win.
I think the Knights will be motivated after the loss to the Braves, and be ready to get back at it Friday night.
I just can't see Oakland-Craig losing back-to-back games. The Knights are too good a team to lose two weeks in a row.
With that said, Smith has to get going again and Reinert needs to have another good game throwing the ball.
Oakland-Craig needs to have the same kind of balance on offense that they had against Battle Creek.
Crofton is a tough place to play, but the Knights won there last year, and I look for Oakland-Craig to repeat those efforts Friday night.
I definitely feel the game will be one of those close, grind it out type of games, but I look for the Knights to get the job done.
This is a really important game for Oakland-Craig. The Knights don't want to lose this one and slip to 1-2 with Ponca coming to town next week.
Simply put, this is a must win for Oakland-Craig. The Knights must get the job done this week.
The non district slate appears to be tougher than Oakland-Craig's district so the Knights have to treat these non district games as playoff preparation games.
I'm not saying Oakland-Craig can just coast through district play, because they can't, but the Knights should have a fairly good chance to win their district and earn an automatic berth into the playoffs.
