Howells-Dodge loses shootout to Osmond
The Howells-Dodge Jaguars competed well against Osmond Friday night, but fell 40-32 at home.
The Tigers led 14-8 at the end of one before Osmond won the second quarter 12-8 to lead 26-16 at halftime.
The Jaguars outscored the Tigers 8-7 in both the third and fourth quarters.
Dax VanLengen was 13-25 passing for 168 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Zach Bayer caught 5 passes for 87 yards, including two touchdowns. Jordan Brichacek hauled in 4 passes for 83 yards, and scored once. Brichacek added 68 yards rushing on 16 carries.
Ely Henrickson made 17 tackles while Kade Hegemann and Bayer totaled 16 apiece. Brichacek and Connor Blum each had 11 while Ryan Macholan registered 7.
Howells-Dodge finished with 287 yards of total offense, including 195 through the air.
The defense gave up 392 yards, 260 coming on the ground.
I thought the Jaguars played well despite the loss. Howells-Dodge's run game and run defense could have been better, but the Jaguars were still competitive despite their struggles up front.
Howells-Dodge (1-1) hosts Omaha Nation (1-1) Friday night.
The Chiefs lost 72-12 at home to Neligh-Oakdale last time out.
I think the Jaguars have a chance to win this game pretty big, and figure some things out.
I think Omaha Nation is the type of team Howells-Dodge can gain confidence against.
What I mean by that is I think the Jaguars have a better chance of success up front against the Chiefs than they did against Osmond.
With that said, Howells-Dodge can't play down to their competition.
If anything, the Jaguars have to play up to their competition.
Howells-Dodge could use a big win heading into the bye week.
The Jaguars need to have a good showing before the Neligh-Oakdale game. Howells-Dodge will have two weeks to prepare for the Warriors, but can't be looking ahead to that game.
The Jaguars have to be focused on the task at hand, which is taking care of business against the Chiefs.
You can bet Omaha Nation will give their best effort so Howells-Dodge has to be ready to play from the get go.
The Jaguars have to start fast and keep pouring it on. It has to be a complete game performance from Howells-Dodge.
