Stanton defeats Wisner-Pilger
The Stanton Mustangs picked up a big win at Wisner-Pilger on Friday, winning 48-13.
Stanton led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Mustangs shutout the Gators 22-0 in the second quarter to go up 34-7 at halftime.
Stanton won the third quarter 14-6 to make it a 48-7 game at the end of three.
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Trey Erbst ran the ball 8 times for 118 yards, and scored twice. Hunter Stallbaum was 3-4 passing for 56 yards with a touchdown.
Mason King had a team-high 11 tackles while Dylan Hunt and Erbst made 10 and 9, respectively.
The Mustangs finished with 347 yards of total offense, including 291 on the ground.
This was an impressive win by Stanton. The Mustangs definitely had the upper hand in this rivalry game.
Stanton (2-0) hosts Cross County (1-1) in their home opener Friday night.
The Cougars lost 22-14 at home to St. Paul last time out.
Cross County may be 1-1, but they are a good team.
Stanton has to be ready to play, and must be on top of their game from the get go.
I would say the Cougars will be the Mustangs' biggest challenge so far on the young season.
With that said, I look for Stanton to move to 3-0.
Cross County is good, but I think the Mustangs are really good.
Stanton appears to be primed and ready to make a run at a district championship, and not get left out of the playoffs again this year.
There are some other challenging games on the schedule for the Mustangs this season, but the only focus right now should be on Cross County.
Stanton has to come out and play smashmouth football, and take care of business.
The Mustangs have to be physical at the line of scrimmage, and take the fight to the Cougars.
Stanton has to get after things, and defend their home turf like they are capable of.
I look for the Mustangs to be pumped, jacked, and amped up for this game, and have a good showing.
I would be pretty surprised if Stanton lost. I think the Mustangs are in prime position to take care of business against Cross County, and win in a big way.
The Cougars are the type of team Stanton must get out to a lead on, and continue to add to it.
