North Bend Central falls at home to West Point-Beemer
The North Bend Central Tigers lost 19-13 at home to West Point-Beemer Friday night.
Neither team scored in the first quarter. The Cadets struck in the second quarter to lead 6-0 at halftime.
Both teams scored 6 points in the third quarter, and the score after three was 12-6 in favor of West Point-Beemer.
Both teams scored 7 fourth quarter points to make up the final score.
Joel Hines was 9-19 passing for 59 yards with a touchdown.
Jayton Frank finished with 7.5 tackles.
The Tigers racked up 137 yards of total offense, including 70 through the air. The Cadets totaled 363 yards of offense, 275 coming on the ground.
Head Coach Ryan Stieren says his team had a chance to win despite their struggles on offense. "I really felt that we played well enough on defense and special teams to win but offensively, we really struggled. They had a good plan and did some things that we will definitely learn from and improve upon. I was definitely proud of our kids because we really fought hard until the very end. We had the ball down 6, at the end of the game with a chance to win so that is all you can ask for, especially on a night when we struggled to find any rhythm on offense."
North Bend Central (1-1) is at Tekamah-Herman (1-1) Friday night.
Tekamah-Herman lost 53-6 at Ponca last time out.
Tekamah-Herman was certainly much better in their first game of the season and needs to be more consistent.
I would say North Bend Central also played better in their first game and needs to play better this week.
The Tigers didn't play bad against West Point-Beemer, I just think it was a case of the Cadets playing well.
North Bend Central is in a larger class than Tekamah-Herman, although Tekamah-Herman has been C-1 in the past.
I don't know what kind of effect playing C-1 ball, in North Bend Central's case, has on this game as I feel Tekamah-Herman has played the tougher schedule so far, but it has to count for something.
Ponca is a really good team, and I wonder how Tekamah-Herman will respond following the loss to them.
I don't think North Bend Central will have a tough time responding this week, even if they did lose a tough, close game last week.
I look for Friday night's game to be close one way or the other. I think the game could very well come down to the final possession like last week's game did for North Bend Central.
