West Point-Beemer edges Wisner-Pilger

It was a real nail biter at Friday night's Wisner-Pilger homecoming game....as West Point-Beemer held on to beat in-county rival Wisner-Pilger 7 to 6.

Cole Hughes was 5-7 passing for 92 yards. Kade Hughes hauled in 2 passes for 53 yards.

Riley Berg ran for 67 yards on 19 carries.

Dylan James made 9 tackles.

The Cadets racked up 200 yards of offense, including 107 on the ground.

Head Coach Troy Schlueter 's team is now 2 and 1. "I think it's kind of like one of those baseball games where there's real good pitchers. It's so intense every play that you just love it. It's like I was telling the boys right after the game, I said man this is what high school football's all about baby, you get in a rivalry game. It goes down to the last play of the game. And you either make it or you don't, and thank goodness we made it."

Up next for West Point-Beemer is Fort Calhoun (2-1). "Just from looking at who they've played, it's tough to compare scores sometimes, but at the same time they may be a lot like us. Still learning, still growing, still wanting to get things perfected to where you've got some bread and butter things that you can do. So I think if we can come out with a little intensity, and be excited about playing at home again, because we got thumped at home last time."

The Pioneers lost 19-7 at Columbus Lakeview Friday night.

Fort Calhoun isn't a bad team, and the Cadets are going to have to play exceptional football to come out on top.

I think it's going to take West Point-Beemer's best effort of the season for the Cadets to win.

West Point-Beemer got the Pioneers last year, and I think the Cadets are capable of winning again.

West Point-Beemer has had a knack for winning close games so far this year, and I look for that to be the case once again Friday night.

I look for the Cadets to win a close, tightly contested affair.

The Pioneers beat Louisville 18-17 and North Bend Central downed the Lions 19-7 if that tells you anything.

The game being in West Point is huge for the Cadets, in my opinion.

These are the types of games that are must wins when building a program.

These toss up games that can go either way are big for a team if they can win them.

West Point-Beemer has won two what I would call "toss up" games in a row so we'll see if the Cadets can do it for a third time.

Berg has to run the ball well, and West Point-Beemer needs to be efficient passing the ball as well to have the same kind of balance they had in the Wisner-Pilger win.
