Stanton tops Logan View

The Stanton Mustangs downed Logan View at home Friday night, 42-13.

The game was tied at 7 at the end of one. The Mustangs shutout the Raiders 14-0 in the second quarter to go up 21-7 at halftime.

Stanton blanked Logan View 14-0 in the third quarter to lead 35-7 at the end of one.

The Mustangs won the fourth quarter 7-6.

Trey Erbst had 8 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown. Mason King ran the ball 6 times for 81 yards. Myles Nickolite carried the rock 9 times for 54 yards, and scored three times.

Hunter Stallbaum was 4-9 passing for 94 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Nickolite hauled in 2 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Stanton racked up 422 yards of total offense, 328 coming on the ground.

The defense gave up 244 yards, including 194 in the run game.

The Mustangs played well in the middle quarters I thought. Those quarters were the difference in the game there's no doubt about it.

Stanton (4-0) is at Lutheran High Northeast (3-1) Friday night.

The Eagles downed Lincoln Lutheran 34-0 on the road last time out.

Cross County beat Lutheran High Northeast 35-13 in the season opener while the Mustangs downed the Cougars 20-6 a couple of weeks ago.

Stanton should be able to take care of the Eagles, but this could be a stingy test for the Mustangs.

I think Lutheran High Northeast is a team that is on the rise and is only getting better. I think Stanton could have their hands full Friday night.

I look for the Mustangs to win, but I feel the Eagles are a dangerous and real threat to Stanton.

The Mustangs have to be on top of their game and must play four quarters of football.

I don't know if the Mustangs can get away with being even with Lutheran High Northeast for a couple of quarters.

Erbst and Stallbaum need to spearhead the rushing and passing games of Stanton if the Mustangs are to beat the Eagles.

Stanton has to put forth their best effort of the season.

It's the start of district play, and the Mustangs know every game counts seeing as they got left out of the playoffs last year.

I'm sure Stanton doesn't want that happening again so this is step one towards winning a district title and reaching the postseason.

I look for the Mustangs to be very focused and determined in an effort to win their first district game, and put themselves in a position to go after the district title.

This is a loaded district so we will find out how good Stanton really is. I think the Mustangs have what it takes to win it, but Stanton can't slip up and falter against the Eagles if they want to win it.

The district winner could have a district loss or two, but it would be awfully tough for the Mustangs to win all or the majority of the rest of their games if they lose to LHNE, in my opinion.
