Stanton beats Cross County

The Stanton Mustangs remained undefeated with a 20-6 home win over Cross County Friday night.

Stanton led 6-0 after one and 14-0 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter. Both teams put up 6 points in the fourth quarter.

Hunter Stallbaum was 6-13 passing for 85 yards with two interceptions.

Myles Nickolite hauled in 3 passes for 57 yards.

Dylan Hunt and Parker Theisen made 11 tackles apiece while Henry Bohac and Mason King recorded 10 each. Trey Erbst registered 9 while Ben Wilke and Nickolite totaled 7 apiece.

The Mustangs finished with 225 yards of offense, 140 coming on the ground.

The defense surrendered 168 yards of offense, including 92 rushing.

Stanton played a respectable game for the most part. The Mustangs did enough to win.

Stanton (3-0) hosts Logan View (1-2) Friday night.

The Raiders lost 34-0 at Yutan last time out.

That's a game in which Logan View had 16 yards of total offense, including -16 rushing.

And I would say the Mustangs' run defense is just as good if not better than the Chieftains'.

Stanton has to be very physical at the line of scrimmage, and stop the run while pounding the rock right at the Raiders.

The Mustangs have to make Logan View stop the run, but respect their passing game as well.

This is one of Stanton's last games they have a chance to win big in, in my opinion, as the district slate is really tough.

The Mustangs have Lutheran High Northeast next week, but after that it gets really tough.

Stanton needs to play well in this game in order to prepare for what lies ahead.

The Mustangs figure to have tough games with the likes of Crofton, Ponca, Hartington Cedar Catholic, and Battle Creek.

Stanton plays all four of those teams in a row so that's why it's important for the Mustangs to play well against the Raiders this week.

Stanton has to play well in an effort to keep building for those tough district games.

These non district games are important, but the Mustangs have to do more than just win them. Stanton needs to dominate them.

I didn't feel the Mustangs were as dominant as they could have been last week so Stanton needs to pick things up this week, in my opinion.
