Pender loses at CWCE
The Pender Pendragons fell 56-14 at CWCE (Chambers/Wheeler Central/Ewing) last Friday.
The Renegades led 16-0 at the end of one and outscored the Pendragons 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 34-8 lead into the locker room.
CWCE won the third quarter 14-6 to go up 48-14 at the end of three.
The Renegades notched 8 fourth quarter points compared to none for Pender.
Dylan Roth was 8-21 passing for 98 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
Jared Tyrell made one catch for 66 yards that went for a score.
James Bensen recorded 82 rushing yards on 10 carries.
Bensen added 9 tackles while Roth and Brayden Bensen totaled 8 and 7, respectively.
The Pendragons posted 227 yards of offense, including 129 rushing.
The defense gave up 328 yards of total offense, 212 coming on the ground.
Pender had a rough game, but I would say the Pendragons' struggles were more to do with how good CWCE is rather than how Pender played.
The Pendragons (0-2) host Wakefield (2-0) Friday night.
The Trojans won 60-28 at home over Homer last time out.
Wakefield has proven to be a solid team so far this season, and Pender is going to need to play very well to knock off the Trojans.
I think the Pendragons are definitely capable of winning though.
Pender's defense has to be much better than it has been though, and the Pendragons need to take care of the football.
Wakefield has excellent tradition in football, and figure to be tough to beat.
It's a rivalry game though, and anything can happen.
Pender has to believe they can pick up their first win of the season because doing so is very possible.
Bensen has to run the ball with authority and Roth needs to have a good game running and throwing the ball.
The Pendragons need to come together as a team and play well Friday night.
The off week definitely came at the right time for Pender I think.
If anything, the off week has allowed the Pendragons to regroup and refocus after the two losses to start the season.
There's still a long ways to go yet this year, and Pender can still make the playoffs. so the Pendragons have to keep their hopes and spirits up.
Pender is still a good football team, and still has the potential to do some nice things this year, so the Pendragons need to keep things positive.
