Emerson-Hubbard loses to Wynot
The Emerson-Hubbard Pirates fell 58-6 at home to Wynot Friday night.
The Blue Devils led 38-0 at the end of one and blanked the Pirates 12-0 in the second quarter to go up 50-0 at halftime.
Wynot shutout Emerson-Hubbard 8-0 in the third quarter to make it a 58-0 game at the end of three.
The Pirates scored their only points of the game in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.
The defense gave up 383 yards of offense, 212 coming through the air.
I'm not surprised that Emerson-Hubbard got beat, I just figured the game would be closer than it was, especially in the first half.
The Pirates (3-3) take on Allen (3-3) on the road Friday night.
The Eagles downed Winside 37-6 on the road this past Friday night.
Allen appears to be a pretty tough team, and I think Emerson-Hubbard could have some trouble with them.
The Eagles lost to Wynot 40-14, a much closer score than the Emerson-Hubbard/Wynot game.
That's not to say the Pirates can't win, because I think they can as scores don't mean everything, but Emerson-Hubbard has to play a much better game against Allen than they did against the Blue Devils.
Emerson-Hubbard's offense and defense has to be a lot better than it was against Wynot.
I think the forfeit win over Winside hurt this team in a way. I think the Pirates would have been better off being able to play that game.
Perhaps that's a reason Emerson-Hubbard gave up 38 points in the first quarter to the Blue Devils because the Pirates played respectable defense after the first quarter.
Emerson-Hubbard has to be better on offense though. The Pirates can't expect to win many games when they get shutout for three quarters and score only 6 points.
I look for Emerson-Hubbard to play a respectable game against the Eagles, I just don't know if it will be enough to win.
I think the Pirates can win, but when it comes down to it, I just don't know if it will happen.
Emerson-Hubbard has to have a good game plan, and perhaps throw in a trick play or two to gain some sort of edge and advantage on the road.
The Pirates have to be physical at the line of scrimmage, and be able to run the ball.
The defense has to do a better job of defending the run and pass as well.
Emerson-Hubbard has to tackle well, and stay in their lanes defensively.
At the same time, the Pirates have to cheat and overplay some things to try and create turnovers.
Emerson-Hubbard has to take some chances on defense and see if they can come up big.
