Scribner-Snyder drops home game to Humphrey St. Francis
The Scribner-Snyder Trojans lost 80-16 at home to defending Class D-2 State Champion Humphrey St. Francis on Friday, September 30th.
The Flyers led 38-0 at the end of the first quarter, and outscored the Trojans 28-8 in the second quarter to make it a 66-8 game at the break.
Humphrey St. Francis won the third quarter 14-8 to make up the final score as neither team scored in the fourth quarter.
Gunner Palmer had 76 yards rushing on 16 carries, including a score.
Alex Nuno made a team-high 10 tackles.
Scribner-Snyder totaled 181 yards of offense, all on the ground.
Head Coach Anthony Ruzicka says his team never gave up against the Flyers.
"St. Francis, they're a really good team, and the one thing that I was happy to see is didn't matter late in the game, we didn't quit playing, didn't hang our heads, didn't pout, didn't make excuses. It was what it was, and we kept playing, and we went out there, we competed."
1-5 Scribner-Snyder and 6-1 Osceola meet on the gridiron in Osceola Friday night. Ruzicka says the Bulldogs are a complete team.
"They are very very fast. They don't have a lot of kids either, but the ones they have, they're really good athletes. They play hard, they're well coached. Coach Nielsen, we played Osceola a few years ago, and he always gets them ready to go, and we're going down to their field. It's going to be tough."
Osceola beat Humphrey St. Francis 26-24 last week.
As coach Ruzicka said, this is going to be a really difficult game for the Trojans.
Scribner-Snyder has to keep doing what they have been doing though, which is fighting and never giving up.
This team's resolve appears like it has been good so far this year, and I look for it to be good again Friday night.
I don't know if the Trojans will win this week, but I think Scribner-Snyder has a shot to knock off Cedar Bluffs next week.
The Trojans are pretty much out of it as far as the playoffs are concerned, but there's still a lot for Scribner-Snyder to play for.
For the seniors, it's about trying to play your best to finish off your high school career, and for the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen it's about building for the future and laying a foundation.
I fully expect the Trojans to play their tails off Friday night and give it their best shot.
Scribner-Snyder may not win, but I think there will be some positive things the Trojans can take away from the game and use for next week's game against the Wildcats.
It appears the bye week allowed Scribner-Snyder to heal up some so hopefully the Trojans don't lose anybody to injury Friday night.
The Trojans have to do their best to win, and play hard and fight for four quarters like they have all season long.
If Scribner-Snyder can do that, I think the game can be closer than some people think it might be.
The Trojans and Bulldogs are set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.. The game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull with pregame starting at 6:40.
