Scribner-Snyder drops contest to Osceola

Osceola-The Scribner-Snyder Trojans came up short Friday night, falling 71-30 at Osceola.

The Bulldogs shutout the Trojans 16-0 in the first quarter and outscored Scribner-Snyder 30-8 in the second quarter to take a 46-8 lead into the locker room.

The Trojans won the third quarter 14-10 to make it a 56-22 game at the end of three.

Osceola put up 15 fourth quarter points compared to 8 for Scribner-Snyder.

Jadyn Smeal led the Trojans offensively with 152 yards rushing on 13 carries, including a touchdown. Sebastian Arnold added 68 yards rushing on 16 attempts for Scribner-Snyder (1-6).

Scribner-Snyder amassed 307 yards of offense, all on the ground, while the Bulldogs had 378 yards of total offense, including 343 rushing.

Head Coach Anthony Ruzicka  says his team is improving.

"We missed a few tackles yet, but overall it's getting better. We got some different people playing on the line. Blocking was so so at times, but yeah I mean we're coming along and seeing a lot of improvement week-to-week, so that's what we're looking for."

The Trojans finish up their season at Cedar Bluffs (2-5) on Friday.

The Wildcats lost 82-14 at Humphrey St. Francis this past Friday night.

Ruzicka says the Wildcats will present a challenge.

"They are really big up front. Quarterback that throws the ball. I think two weeks ago when they played Osceola they threw the ball around a lot. They beat us last year. We did see them at camp. And they're going to load up the box, they're going to come bent for stopping the run, so we're going to have our hands full."

I think Scribner-Snyder has a good shot to win this game.

The Trojans appear to keep getting better every week and are coming along nicely.

I think the off week really benefited Scribner-Snyder, and allowed them to play Osceola tougher than they would have if the game had been a week earlier.

I know the Trojans got blown out, but I think there were many positives for Scribner-Snyder to take away from the Osceola game.

I think the Trojans have what it takes to knock off Cedar Bluffs on Friday. I think it could very well happen.

Smeal, Arnold, and Gunner Palmer need to have big games for Scribner-Snyder though.

The Trojans really need to get all three of them going to be able to win, in my opinion.

Scribner-Snyder must also try and find some semblance of a passing game.

I know throwing the ball isn't the Trojans' forte, but I think Scribner-Snyder is going to need to be able to toss the pigskin around a little bit to find success against Cedar Bluffs.

It's the final game of the season for both teams, and I look for both to empty the playbook and throw the kitchen sink at one another.

It has been a long and difficult season for both teams in many ways, but whoever wins will have a good feeling going into next season, and for the seniors, they will be able to say they won their last ever high school football game.

This game matters, and is important to the players, coaches, parents, and fans involved.
