GACC spanks Homer

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays rolled Homer Friday night, winning 63-14 at home.

The Bluejays led 13-0 at the end of one and blanked the Knights 22-0 in the second quarter to lead 35-0 at halftime.

GACC won the third quarter 13-8 to make it a 48-8 game at the end of three.

The Bluejays outscored Homer 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

Jared Minnick had 144 yards rushing on 11 carries, including two scores. Nolan Plagge added 1-2 yards on the ground on 4 carries, scoring twice. Derek Petz totaled 72 yards on the ground on 5 carries, and put one in the end zone.

Plagge was 5-6 passing for 86 yards with three touchdowns.

Kobe Slaughter hauled in 4 passes for 66 yards, and scored twice.

Casey Doernemann racked up 11 tackles while Andrew Guenther and Connor Klitz made 9 each. Minnick notched 7.

GACC amassed 472 yards of offense, including 386 on the ground.

The defense allowed 214 yards of offense, including 174 rushing.

I thought the Bluejays played a really good game. GACC did what you want to do, and that's have the running clock rule in effect to start the second half.

The Bluejays (6-0) travel to Winnebago on Friday to take on the Indians (2-4).

Winnebago blew out Omaha Nation 78-36 in their last game.

GACC downed the Chiefs 50-6 when the two teams played so this game could certainly be close based on that score.

The thing is though the Indians have trouble stopping people.

Winnebago can score a lot of points, but their defense is suspect at best.

I think the Bluejays will have a good game plan and have a huge game offensively, while doing enough defensively to win the game.

I don't know if GACC will totally shutdown Winnebago's offense, but I think the Bluejays can tame the Indians' offense.

Winnebago will no doubt be playing with some confidence following last week's win over Omaha Nation.

This is the Indians' final home game of the season, and with no playoffs in store for Winnebago, it would no doubt make the Indians' season to upset the Bluejays.

Winnebago would no doubt like to win their final three regular season games and finish the season 4-4.

GACC needs to keep winning though to stay towards the top of the Wildcard Point Standings.

Right now the Bluejays would be a 1 or a 2 seed in the playoffs, and if GACC can win their last two games, they should be a high seed for the postseason.

The Bluejays have found ways to win this season whether the games have been close or lopsided.

I think this game could be closer than some might think, but I look for GACC to find a way to win.

The Bluejays must be focused and can't overlook the Indians though. A big game looms for GACC next week when they take on Pender, but the Bluejays have to be worried about beating Winnebago first.

GACC needs to win this game if they want to win the district. The Indians only have one district loss, and if the Bluejays slip up this week, Winnebago could end up being the district champion.

That's the last thing GACC wants to see.
