Winnebago loses at Pender
The Winnebago Indians fell 44-8 at Pender Friday night.
The game was tied at 8 at the end of one. The Pendragons shutout the Indians 8-0 in both the second and third quarters to lead 16-8 at halftime and 24-8 at the end of three.
Pender erupted for 20 fourth quarter points, and once again, held Winnebago scoreless.
The defense gave up 426 yards of total offense, 372 coming on the ground.
I thought the Indians played a good first quarter and did a nice job competing early on, and for the most part throughout three quarters. It appears Winnebago ran out of gas in the fourth quarter though.
The Indians (1-4) host Omaha Nation (2-4) Friday night.
The Chiefs beat Homer 50-42 at home last time out.
This is a big, important game for Winnebago as this is definitely a rivalry game.
The Indians have to come to play, and put the game with the Pendragons behind them.
Winnebago has to play a four quarter game though.
The Indians can't afford to have a fourth quarter like they did against Pender.
Winnebago has to be super tough mentally and physically in the fourth quarter.
The Indians also need to be the better conditioned team at the end of the game if they want to win.
Winnebago has to play their hearts out, and leave everything they've got on the field.
I think the Indians can definitely win this game,
Winnebago has been a little bit more competitive in their losses than Omaha Nation has, in my opinion.
This game being in Winnebago should also be an advantage for the Indians.
If Winnebago can win two out of these next three games I think it would be huge for them.
While a 3-5 record isn't the most ideal season for a team, it would be an improvement from last season and the year before for this team.
I feel this program is slowly getting better, and the players are taking positive steps in the right direction towards becoming a winning team.
The Indians hanging with the Pendragons for three quarters shows how much progress is being made, in my opinion.
This game with the Chiefs is really important to everyone involved with the Winnebago program though I'm sure.
This is one everyone wants to get.
