Winnebago defeats Omaha Nation
The Winnebago Indians won 78-36 at home over rival Omaha Nation Friday night.
Tyrese Gorrin had 158 yards rushing on 14 carries, including two touchdowns. Drake Gorrin carried the ball 5 times for 79 yards, and scored twice.
Cedrick Blackdeer was 9-11 passing for 123 yards with three touchdowns. T.J. Frenchman was 1-1 with a 58-yard TD pass.
Drake Gorrin hauled in 6 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns.
Josh Miles made 13 tackles while Drake Gorrin totaled 9.
Winnebago totaled 475 yards of offense, including 278 on the ground.
This was a very impressive win for the Indians. Winnebago really came to play.
The Indians (2-4) host Guardian Angels Central Catholic (6-0) Friday night.
The Bluejays downed Homer 63-14 last time out.
GACC had a really good rushing attack against the Knights, running for 386 yards.
Winnebago has to do a good job slowing down the Bluejays' run game.
I think the Indians have a shot in this game. GACC beat Omaha Nation 50-6 so from a scoring margin standpoint things appear to be pretty even.
The big question for me though will be can Winnebago slow down the Bluejays' offense?
We know the Indians can score, but they have yet to really slow anybody down so far this season.
Winnebago's best defensive game came against the Chiefs so I certainly think the Indians are capable of doing enough defensively against GACC to make a game of things.
A win over the Bluejays would make Winnebago's season.
The Indians are ineligible for the playoffs, but a 4-4 finish would be respectable for this program considering how recent years have gone.
I think Winnebago is a team that's improving and on the rise.
The Indians are getting better every week, in my opinion, and that's a really good sign.
Drake Gorrin had a great game against Omaha Nation, and I look for him to do really well against GACC.
Winnebago was well balanced against the Chiefs, and I look for that to be the case again this coming Friday night.
A win for the Indians Friday night and a win next week gives Winnebago at least a share of the district championship.
The Indians have to win this week and hope the Bluejays beat Pender next week to win the district championship.
