North Bend Central falls to David City Aquinas

The North Bend Central Tigers lost 49-6 at home to David City Aquinas Friday night.

The Monarchs led 21-0 at the end of one and outscored the Tigers 21-6 in the second quarter to lead 42-6 at halftime.

David City Aquinas won the third quarter 7-0 to make up the final score. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Joel Hines was 11-22 passing for 102 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Dawson Poessnecker brought in 5 passes for 69 yards, including a touchdown.

Brock Ray made 9 tackles while Poessnecker and Peter Emanuel totaled 8 and 7, respectively.

North Bend Central had 140 yards of total offense, including 102 through the air.

The defense gave up 394 yards of total offense, 351 coming on the ground.

Head Coach Ryan Stieren says his team is still a work in progress. "I felt like we made some strides Friday night. Offensively, at times, we moved the ball well against their first defense including a 70 yard scoring drive. Defensively, we had a couple stops but gave up way too many big plays. We are still making too many mental mistakes that we can control and when you do that against a team like Aquinas, the game can get out of hand in a hurry. Again, we are looking forward to the challenge that Neumann presents this Friday."

The Tigers (3-3) take on the Cavaliers (7-0) in Wahoo.

Neumann blew out David City 70-6 at home Friday night.

The Cavaliers are the real deal, and might be the best team in the district, in my opinion.

I kind of think Bishop Neumann is a little ahead of Wahoo so we will see how North Bend Central fares Friday night.

I think the Tigers are capable of taking some steps and making some strides towards being competitive, I just don't know what they can do against a team like the Cavaliers.

North Bend Central has been out of their first two district games by halftime.

The Tigers did better in the first half against the Monarchs than they did against the Warriors so perhaps this coming Friday night's halftime score won't be as bad as the first two games.

North Bend Central has to continue to do some good things, and keep building for their regular season finale against David City and next season.

It has been a very respectable season for the Tigers, especially given where this program has been in recent years, but North Bend Central is just in the midst of playing three of the best teams in Class C-1.

All the Tigers can do is fight hard and look forward to the battle with Neumann.

North Bend Central can't be afraid of the Cavaliers, and must do everything they can to be competitive and win.

The Aquinas game wasn't as bad as the Wahoo game, and I think this week's game has a chance to be a little less lopsided than last week's contest.

It's asking an awful lot for the Tigers to win, but North Bend Central has to believe it can happen, and must play to win, and not not to lose.
