Stanton falls at Hartington Cedar Catholic

The Stanton Mustangs lost 28-21 at Hartington Cedar Catholic Friday night.

The Trojans went up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter before the Mustangs doubled up Hartington Cedar Catholic 14-7 in the second quarter to make it a 14-13 game at halftime.

The Mustangs scored 7 third quarter points to extend their lead to 21-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Trojans blanked Stanton 15-0 in the final stanza.

The Mustangs definitely let one get away. I felt Stanton had their chances to win this game.

The Mustangs (5-3) face a do or die situation on Thursday when they host Battle Creek (7-1).

Stanton has to beat the Braves or their season is over.

Battle Creek blanked Crofton 14-0 last time out, and the Braves are currently No. 1 in Power Points in Class C-2 so don't expect Battle Creek to just go through the motions.

Often times when a team is already in the playoffs they have a tendency to relax and in some cases even rest players, but I don't expect the Braves to do that.

Battle Creek knows what's on the line, and just assumes end the Mustangs' season.

Stanton has had their chances, but it's looking like 3 close district losses could end up costing the Mustangs a trip to the playoffs.

At the beginning of the season I thought this game could decide the district, and it still will factor into who wins the district, it just won't be Stanton even if they win.

Stanton has let some games get away from them, but all would be forgotten with a win over Battle Creek.

The Mustangs still have a shot at the playoffs, but they have to believe they can upset the Braves.

This is the Mustangs' season. This is Stanton's playoff game.

It's win or go home for the Mustangs, and Stanton has to play like they know it.

This could be the last game of high school football these seniors ever play, although the Mustangs hope that's not the case.

Stanton has to come out and leave everything they've got on the field.

The Mustangs have to exert every ounce of energy in their bodies possible to win, and must have nothing left to give after this one is over.

If Stanton has energy left in the tank after this one is over then they probably didn't play hard enough.

The Mustangs have to play like their there's no tomorrow because if Stanton loses then there's not.

Lose and the season is over....win and there's still hope and a shot at the postseason.
