The Howells-Dodge Football team is 3-2 on the season following this past Friday night's 58-8 road win over Elgin Public/Pope John. Head Coach Mike Speirs says his team played a complete game.
"Elgin Public/Pope John right now is kind of going through a pretty tough stretch injury wise. And they were probably a little bit undermanned. But our kids really came out and took control of the game right away, played good on both sides of the ball. And special teams we had a punt return for a touchdown so that's always nice. Just overall great effort by our kids."
The Jaguars led the Wolfpack 14-0 after one, and shutout Elgin Public/Pope John 24-0 in the second quarter to take a 38-0 lead into the locker room.
Howells-Dodge won the third quarter 6-0 to go up 44-0 at the end of three.
The Jaguars shutout the Wolfpack 14-8 in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.
Dylan Horejsi had 111 yards rushing on 8 carries with 2 touchdowns while Josh Brester rumbled for 97 yards on 13 attempts, and scored once.
Zach Bayer made 9 tackles for Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars totaled 306 yards of offense, including 294 on the ground.
The defense gave up just 106 yards of offense, 88 of them rushing.

The Jaguars host Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (3-2) Friday night.
Speirs says the Bulldogs are well disciplined.
"Kids are always well prepared, they always play physical football, and they always really get after it. So we know coming in that's what we're going to see. They have been playing really well as of late. Boy it's going to be a test for our kids that's for sure."
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has won their last three games after starting the season 0-2.
The Bulldogs beat High Plains Community 56-8 last time out.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family knocked off Elgin Public/Pope John 46-8 the week before, and based on the two teams' scores against the Wolfpack, I would say the Jaguars are a little bit ahead of the Bulldogs.
I think Howells-Dodge is a good team, especially when it comes to the run game, as Horejsi and Brester had good games running the ball against Elgin Public/Pope John.
So the Jaguars must run the ball well Friday night, but Dax VanLengen also has to get things going in the passing game.
I think it's going to be important for Howells-Dodge to be well balanced offensively. I don't know if the Jaguars can win being one dimensional.
With all this said, I think Howells-Dodge has a chance to win their remaining regular season games.
The offensive line has to continue to step up and perform well, and the defensive line has to be on point stopping the run, but if both can continue to step up for this team, the Jaguars have a chance to go far this season.
I feel like Howells-Dodge's toughest games are behind them, and while none of their remaining games are gimmies, I like the Jaguars' chances of winning out heading into the playoffs.
Friday night's game can be heard on 107.9 the Bull with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. and pregame at 6:40.
