Clarkson/Leigh picks up road win over Neligh-Oakdale

The Clarkson/Leigh Football team won 36-20 at Neligh-Oakdale Friday night.

The Warriors led 14-6 after one. The Patriots shutout Neligh-Oakdale 6-0 in the second quarter to make it a 14-12 game at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh blanked the Warriors 8-0 in the third quarter to pull in front 20-14 at the end of three.

The Patriots outscored Neligh-Oakdale 16-6 in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Bruhn ran the ball 23 times for 118 yards and four touchdowns. Hector Mendoza had 81 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Tommy McEvoy carried the rock 3 times for 54 yards, and scored once.

Bruhn was 9-18 passing for 87 yards. McEvoy hauled in 4 passes for 58 yards.

Jacob Gall had 13 tackles while McEvoy and Mendoza made 9 and 7, respectively.

Clarkson/Leigh amassed 378 yards of total offense, including 291 rushing.

The defense gave up 293 yards of offense, 203 coming through the air.

Good, solid performance from the Patriots. The offense played well, and the defense wasn't too shabby either.

Clarkson/Leigh (2-3) hosts Elgin Public/Pope John (0-6) Friday night.

The Wolfpack lost 58-22 at Howells-Dodge Friday night, and was down 58-8 at halftime.

This should be another win for the Patriots.

Bruhn has really come on, and McEvoy and Mendoza ran the ball well against Neligh-Oakdale too.

All need good, solid performances again for Clarkson/Leigh to come out on top, in my opinion.

The Patriots are playing quite a bit better than they did first two games of the year, in my opinion, and need to continue to play well.

Right now Clarkson/Leigh appears to be on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs so I would say the Patriots probably need to win 2 out of their last 3 games to get in.

This game with the Wolfpack is critical as is next week's game at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

Clarkson/Leigh can worry about the Bulldogs later though. The Patriots must beat Elgin/Public Pope John or they can pretty much kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.

Clarkson/Leigh doesn't have a whole lot to be worried about though, in my opinion, but the Patriots have to come out and play with a sense of purpose, pride, and authority Friday night.

Clarkson/Leigh has to come out and blow the Wolfpack out of the water to gain as much momentum as possible heading into the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Game.

I fully expect the Patriots to come out and play really well these last three weeks of the regular season.

I think Clarkson/Leigh will take Elgin Public/Pope John to the woodshed, and perhaps squeak out a win over the Bulldogs. Beating Howells-Dodge will be really tough, but I look for the Patriots to compete well in that game as well.

Making the playoffs has to be the goal, but no matter what happens, I look for Clarkson/Leigh to play good, sound football these next three weeks.

Focusing on Friday night though, the Patriots have to come out and take care of business right from the start against the Wolfpack.

Clarkson/Leigh can't let Elgin Public/Pope John hang around and gain confidence. That will end up getting you beat.

The Patriots need to play like they did in the second half of the Neligh-Oakdale game for four quarters Friday night.
