Clarkson/Leigh uses big 4th quarter to pull away from Elgin Public/Pope John

The Clarkson/Leigh Football team only led Elgin Public/Pope John 38-30 at the end of three at home Friday night, but put up 30 points in the fourth quarter and held the Wolfpack scoreless to pull away for the win.

The Patriots doubled up Elgin Public/Pope John 16-8 in the 1st quarter. The Wolfpack won the 2nd quarter 22-16 to make it a 32-30 game at halftime.

Clarkson/Leigh shutout Elgin Public/Pope John 6-0 in the third quarter to go up 38-30, then blanked the Wolfpack 30-0 in the 4th quarter.

Anthony Bruhn had 196 yards rushing on 20 carries, including four touchdowns, while Jacob Gall totaled 68 yards on 11 carries, and scored one touchdown.

Gall added 14 tackles while Hector Mendoza compiled 12. Haden Held and Tim Zimmerman totaled 10 apiece while Isaak Wiese made 8.

The Patriots amassed 393 yards of total offense, including 370 rushing, while giving up 245 yards of total offense, 144 coming on the ground.

Great 4th quarter from Clarkson/Leigh. It appears the Patriots wore the Wolfpack down, a sign of a well conditioned team.

Clarkson/Leigh (3-3) takes on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (2-4) on the road Friday night.

The Bulldogs lost 70-14 at home to Howells-Dodge this past Friday night.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family beat Elgin Public/Pope John 46-14 on the road so this won't be an easy game for the Patriots by any means.

Clarkson/Leigh definitely needs a win in this game to make the playoffs, and even then it might not be enough.

The Patriots might need to win their last two games to get into the postseason.

Either way, Clarkson/Leigh is 2-0 in District Play, and could set up a District Championship Showdown with Howells-Dodge next Friday night by beating the Bulldogs.

That would be quite the game and quite the deal if it was for the District Title, but first things first, the Patriots have to take care of business against the Bulldogs.

Clarkson/Leigh has to try and slow down Ashton Dohmen in particular.

He has the ability to hurt people with his running ability.

The Patriots should take a page out of Howells-Dodge's book as the Jaguars held him to just 56 yards rushing.

Bruhn and Gall and Tommy McEvoy need to have big games for Clarkson/Leigh, and lead this team to victory.

I really think the Patriots will find a way to get the job done and win.

I think the game will be close, but I feel Clarkson/Leigh will find a way to pull one out.

It might come down to a big last second play or a big defensive stand, but one way or another, I've got the Patriots in this one.

It would be a real shame if Clarkson/Leigh didn't make the playoffs as I feel the Patriots are good enough to make the postseason.

Perhaps a win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family will be enough, but we shall see.

Regardless, this is a must win for Clarkson/Leigh.
