Pender drops home game to Neligh-Oakdale

The Neligh-Oakdale Football Team went into Pender Monday night and came away with a big 58-20 victory in a game rescheduled from Friday.

The Pendragons struck first as Brady Oliver connected with Sam Mailoux on a 7-yard TD pass that put Pender ahead 8-0 with 5:23 remaining in the 1st quarter.

Andrew Herley then returned the ensuing kickoff 78 yards for a TD for the Warriors, and the score was 8-6 with 5:08 left to go in the 1st.

Hunter Charf of Neligh-Oakdale scampered into the end zone from 31 yards out with 49 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter to give the Warriors a 14-8 advantage.

Charf hit Austin Rice with a 38-yard TD pass at the 10 minute mark of the 2nd quarter, and Neligh-Oakdale extended their lead to 22-8.

Oliver found Jaydon Jump for an 18-yard TD pass with 6:36 remaining until halftime, and Pender cut the deficit to 22-14.

Charf scored on a 16-yard TD run for the Warriors with 4:45 left to go until halftime, and Neligh-Oakdale pushed the lead up to 16 at 30-14.

The final score of the first half came by way of a 1-yard Herley TD run with 6 seconds left in the half that gave Neligh-Oakdale a 36-14 advantage heading into the lokcer room.

The Pendragons' Tyler Nelson scored on a 3-yard TD run at the 9:06 mark of the 3rd quarter to make it a 36-20 game.

Charf found pay dirt for the third time later in the quarter, and the Warriors led 42-20 with 6:28 remaining in the period.

Julien Hearn scored from 5 yards out at the 1:38 mark of the 3rd quarter for Neligh-Oakdale, and the Warriors led 50-20.

Herley scored on a 21-yard TD run with no time left to make up the final score..

For Pender, Oliver was 14-28 passing for 220 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Jump made 7 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown while Tyler Nelson had 53 yards receiving on 2 catches.

Jump made 15 tackles.

Neligh-Oakdale had 372 yards of total offense, 286 coming on the ground, while Pender racked up 276 yards of total offense, including 239 passing.

Very disheartening loss for the Pendragons. This one hurts as it was a game Pender really needed.

The Pendragons (2-4) travel to Omaha Nation (1-6) Friday night.

The Chiefs lost 48-8 at home to Winnebago this past Friday night.

I would say this should be a win for Pender, but given the Pendragons' struggles, there's no such thing as a sure win anymore.

Pender has to be flat out upset by the way they've performed lately, and should take all their frustrations out on Omaha Nation.

The Pendragons have underachieved and underperformed, there's no other way to put it.

A lot was expected of Pender this year, and the Pendragons just haven't had the type of season they were hoping for and expecting.

Kids have been out for various reasons from what I understand, and not having everyone and being at full strength will just kill a team every time.

The Pendragons very well may be out of the running for the playoffs.

All Pender can do now is win their last two games and hope that's good enough for a postseason berth.

Losses to Winnebago and Neligh-Oakdale will kill any teams' playoff chances though.

The losses have to be crushing and devastating for the Pendragons. It definitely won't be easy for Pender to recover.

All Pender can do now is get upset and take out all their frustrations out on Omaha Nation.

If I'm the Pendragons I'm very upset by what has transpired this season and would want to do something about it.

Pender has two more chances to try and salvage this season, and it's a must win for the Pendragons both weeks.

Pender has to do what they can to put Monday's loss behind them, and come back on the short week.

The Pendragons have to get back to playing the way they did the first week of the season. That's the only way they're going to win these next two games, in my opinion.
