Stanton drops home game to Crofton
The Stanton Football Team lost 15-8 at home to Crofton Friday night.
Neither team scored in the 1st quarter. The Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead at halftime.
The Mustangs answered with a touchdown in the third quarter to pull ahead 8-7 at the end of three.
Crofton added a final touchdown in the fourth quarter to make up the final score.
Cade Goger threw a 51-yard TD pass to Beau Wilke for the Mustangs' lone touchdown.
Ashton Flood made 15 tackles while Gauge Erickson totaled 12. Sutton Pohlman notched 9 while Wilke and Ben Wilke registered 8 and 7, respectively.
Stanton only had 89 yards of total offense, 85 of them passing.
I thought the Mustangs turned in a good performance defensively. The offense just continues to struggle for Stanton for whatever reason though.
The Mustangs (2-4) travel to Ponca (6-0) to take on the Indians Friday night.
The Indians won 28-20 at Battle Creek this past Friday night.
Ponca beat Crofton 42-0, and if you measure things by that game and how Stanton did against the Warriors, then the Mustangs are in for another long night.
The Indians appear to be the real deal this year, and Stanton is going to need to play their best game of the season to compete and win, in my opinion.
The Mustangs are definitely capable of being competitive given how successful they've been in the past though.
I could also see Stanton getting blown out and taken to the woodshed though.
The Mustangs have to be better on offense than they were against the Warriors, and need to play well on defense again.
I think Stanton's defense can keep them in this one perhaps, but the offense has to step up and help out.
The Mustangs aren't going to win many games scoring just one touchdown, especially given who is all in their district.
Stanton has it really tough the rest of the way, but the Mustangs must continue to fight hard and play up to their potential.
I realize this Stanton team is young, but these freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are now 6 games so it's time to step up and do something.
Ponca is having a dream season, and I'm not sure if the Mustangs are equipped to knock off the Indians, but I think Stanton is capable of competing and making things interesting.
I guess if there's anything I'm surprised by when it comes to the Mustangs' play this year it is the blowout losses.
I just kind of thought given how successful Stanton has been in the past that they would continue their dominance and make another run at the playoffs.
It just hasn't been the Mustangs' year though as this appears to be a rebuilding year for Stanton.
