North Bend Central blanked at David City Aquinas
The North Bend Central Football team lost 30-0 at David City Aquinas Friday night.
The game was scoreless in the 1st quarter, and the Tigers were playing them toe to toe until a high snap went go through their punter's hands and then fumbles twice in a row after that. The Monarchs scored 22 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 22-0 lead into the locker room.
Neither teams scored in the 3rd quarter. David City Aquinas scored their final points in the 4th quarter to make up the final score.
Brock Ray made 11 tackles while Joel Hines totaled 10.
The Tigers were held to just 49 yards of total offense, including 47 passing. The defense gave up 231 yards of total offense, including 206 rushing.
The game ended with 6 minutes left on the clock due to the weather.
Head Coach Ryan Stieren says his team played well defensively, they just need to get things going offensively. "Just like last week, I am pleased with our fight. When you play the number 1 team in the state, you hope that the ball will bounce your way but, unfortunately, it seemed that they got a lot of the breaks that may have kept the game closer. Defensively, we did a ton of good things and forced them into doing a couple different things that they don't normally do. Offensively, we need to get things going if we want to have success the rest of the season. Weather conditions made it tough but we must still secure the ball and execute. We are excited to get another opportunity versus a good team when we host Wahoo Neumann this coming Friday."
North Bend Central (2-4) hosts the Cavaliers (4-3) Friday night.
Neumann beat David City 44-0 on the road this past Friday night.
All the Cavaliers' losses have come to undefeated teams.
You know Neumann will be on top of their game given the fact they need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
A loss to the Tigers would probably knock the Cavaliers out of the playoffs.
If you're North Bend Central though, you can't ask for a better opportunity at this point.
Yeah the Tigers aren't going to the playoffs, but North Bend Central still has the chance to play the role of spoiler.
This is basically the Tigers' playoff game.
This is North Bend Central's last home game of the season.
The last time these seniors will ever play an organized game of Football on their home turf.
The Tigers have to come out and play inspired, and do their best to win.
Neumann is still a really tough team despite their record, but I think North Bend Central can compete against the Cavaliers.
I would say the Tigers have a better chance to make things closer with and upset Neumann than they did against Wahoo and Aquinas.
If I had to say which team is the weakest of the three, I would say the Cavaliers.
Neumann will still be tough, but I fully expect North Bend Central to close the gap with the Cavaliers, and play a good game.
The Tigers just need to get their offense going.
Scoring 6 points and not scoring at all is not going to win you many or any games, unfortunately.
So North Bend Central just has to find a way to be better on offense and put more points on the board.
Whether that's through passing or running the ball, or getting a good kick return to set up good field position, the Tigers have to find a way to score more points and get more production on offense and even on special teams probably.
