GACC shuts out Homer
The GACC Football Team shutout Homer 44-0 on the road Friday night.
The Bluejays led 14-0 at the end of one and blanked the Knights 14-0 in the 2nd quarter to take a 28-0 halftime lead.
GACC shutout Homer 8-0 in the 3rd quarter to go up 36-0 at the end of three.
The Bluejays added 8 fourth quarter points and once again held the Knights scoreless.
Jared Minnick ran the ball 21 times for 133 yards and scored a touchdown while Derek Petz was 5-7 passing for 61 yards with two touchdown passes.
Jacob Yosten made 10 tackles while Casey Doernemann registered 9. Minnick totaled 8 while Noah Hass had 7.
The Bluejays amassed 238 yards of offense, including 177 on the ground.
The defense gave up just 82 yards off total offense, all on the ground.
Good win for GACC. I think the Bluejays could of been more explosive and dynamic on offense, but still a very nice win.
GACC (6-0) hosts Winnebago (2-4) Friday night in a game that could very well end up deciding who wins District D1-2.
The Indians won 48-8 at Omaha Nation this past Friday night.
Winnebago has won their last two games, and has looked good in them.
The Indians should definitely have the Bluejays' attention.
GACC has to be ready and focused because Winnebago will definitely come to play, you can bet on that.
The Bluejays have to play well from start to finish, and turn in a complete, four quarter game.
GACC has to get off to the same kind of start they did against Homer, but finish stronger on offense.
The Indians probably feel they are never out of a game so at no point should the Bluejays put the game in cruise control.
Now I fully expect GACC to win, but the Bluejays can't play like they did for most of the Nebraska City Lourdes contest.
GACC has to play championship football against the Indians, and against Pender next week.
The Bluejays only have two more chances to polish themselves up prior to the playoffs so GACC has to make the most of their opportunities.
Minnick and Petz need to have big games offensively. Winnebago struggles to stop people so I fully expect those two to have big nights for the Bluejays.
The keys for GACC are taking care of the ball and defending well, in my opinion.
The Bluejays can't let the Indians go off on offense, and can't give Winnebago free points and good field position.
Special teams will be important too. GACC could probably use a return or two from Minnick.
At the same time, the Bluejays can't give up any returns and can't have any kicks blocked against Winnebago.
