Oakland-Craig wins rain soaked game over Logan View
In a soggy, rained soaked game Friday night, the Oakland-Craig Football Team pulled out an 18-14 win at Logan View.
Knights' signal caller Evan Reinert got Oakland-Craig on the board first, scoring from a yard out to put the Knights up 6-0 with 6:35 left to go in the first quarter.
The Raiders' Brady Hull scored on a 2-yard TD plunge with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter, and Logan View captured a 7-6 lead.
Reinert scored another touchdown on an 8-yard run with 48 seconds left to go until halftime, and Oakland-Craig held a 12-7 halftime advantage.
Hull scored from 4 yards out with 6:52 left to go in the 3rd Quarter, and the Raiders went up 14-12.
Reinert connected with Garrett Seagren on a 10-yard TD pass with 10:35 left to go in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Reinert was 12-24 passing with 161 yards and a touchdown, and ran the ball 15 times for 51 yards with two touchdowns for the Knights (6-1).
Seagren hauled in 4 passes for 84 yards for Oakland-Craig.
The Knights amassed 304 yards of total offense, including 161 passing, while the Raiders had 187 yards of total offense, 125 coming on the ground.
Head Coach Joe Anderson. "Those balls were just drenched by the end of the game. And we couldn't get outside cause everybody was slipping and falling. And we couldn't run any of our quick game with Garrett, Kobe, and Garrison. So we were really limited in what we could do."
Anderson says they tried to prepare for the wet weather. "We did some wet ball drills in practice, we soaked the ball really good. So we had the snap, and our center's got really, really small hands. And so even on under center snaps he's using two hands to get it up there. So we did that to reassure that the ball gets up there. Even our running game, our hand offs, everything kind of slowed down just a little bit. But ball security is the number one thing. And I'm not sure how many turnovers we had, but I've seen a lot worse put it that way. In a rainy condition where the balls are everywhere."
Oakland-Craig (6-1) hosts Tekamah-Herman (1-6) Friday night.
The Tigers lost 48-0 at home to Fremont Bergan this past Friday night.
The Knights have won the last 7 matchups between the two schools, and haven't lost to Tekamah-Herman since 2005.
I would say Oakland-Craig has a good chance to make that 8 wins in a row over the Tigers.
I look for Tekamah-Herman to put up somewhat of a fight being a rival, but the Knights should be able to win big.
Oakland-Craig has a big showdown at Fremont Bergan next week, but Oakland-Craig can't overlook the Tigers.
The Knights have to be focused on the Tekamah-Herman game.
The matchup with Fremont Bergan can wait.
The only team that Oakland-Craig should be worried about right now is Tekamah-Herman.
The Tigers deserve the Knights' full attention.
Oakland-Craig can worry about Bergan after the Tekamah-Herman game.
This is a Burt County rivalry, and you can bet the Knights will come to play.
I look for Reinert, Seagren, Kobe Benne, Ben Smith, and others to have big games for Oakland-Craig.
I look for some explosive plays from the Knights early and often.
I really think Reinert and Seagren are going to light it up.
Those two are the two most valuable players to Oakland-Craig I would say, and the Knights really rely on their production.
This is a game Oakland-Craig needs to build a big lead in and rest starters.
The Knights have bigger fish to fry down the line, and a lopsided win is important., in my opinion.
