North Bend Central sees progress in loss to Wahoo

The North Bend Central Football Team lost 49-6 at home to Wahoo Friday night.

The Warriors led 21-6 after one, and blanked the Tigers 14-0 in the second quarter to lead 35-6 at halftime.

Wahoo shutout North Bend Central 14-0 in the third quarter to make up the final score. Neither team scored in the 4th.

Austin Endorf was 13-30 passing for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Joel Hines hauled in the 80-yard TD pass as he had 1 catch for 80 yards on the night.

James Seymour made 10 tackles while Hines and Brock Ray tallied 9 and 8, respectively.

The Tigers amassed 198 yards of offense, including 164 rushing.

Head Coach Ryan Stieren says his team took steps forward as a program and made progress.
"I really feel that in the 3 years that I have been here, this was the first time that I feel we competed with them. We scored on their first team defense, which is tough to do because they have 4 shutouts on the season. We stopped their first team offense on a couple of occasions. Besides, the unfortunate first play of the game, we forced them to drive the ball down the field every time not giving up 40 or 60 yard plays. We also competed well on special teams. So, even though we did not win, we feel like we did some good things against one of the best teams in the state."

Up next for North Bend Central (2-3) is David City Aquinas (6-0), who they play on the road Friday night.

The Monarchs won 40-0 at home over David City this past Friday night.

I feel the Tigers can compete and hold their own in this game.

Columbus Scotus nearly beat the Monarchs, and Aquinas certainly could have beaten David City much worse than they did.

And the Shamrocks are 1-5...so what I'm trying to say is there is potential there and a chance for North Bend Central.

Of course the Monarchs also beat Pierce 50-27 and Bishop Neumann 39-14 so it kind of depends on which Aquinas team you get.

Regardless of how the Monarchs play though, I look for the Tigers to close the gap on Aquinas just like they did against the Warriors.

I really feel Stieren has this program headed in the right direction, and I think that's evident by how competitive North Bend Central has been this season.

Even though the Tigers went 4-4 last year I feel they're a stronger team this year even if they go 3-5.

I look for North Bend Central to be physical, and challenge the inside run game of the Monarchs Friday night.

The Tigers have to get pumped up and feel confident heading into this game.

North Bend Central has to believe they belong on the same field as Aquinas because they do, in my opinion.

I don't know if the Tigers will win, but I think North Bend Central will make this game more competitive than other games against the Monarchs have been in years past.

I think the Tigers are capable of scoring 2 or 3 touchdowns, and holding Aquinas under 40 points.

If North Bend Central loses something like 38-14 or 35-21 or something of that nature I think they would be pretty happy with the progress.
