GACC upset by Wakefield
The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Football Team was upset by Wakefield at home Friday night, falling 38-22.
Cody Steffen was 5-11 passing for 141 yards while Jared Minnick had 107 yards rushing on 25 carries with a touchdown. Jadyn Smeal notched 132 yards receiving on 4 receptions.
Casey Doernemann totaled 16 tackles while Minnick and Cash Meier made 15 apiece. Noah Hass had 12 while Steffen posted 7.
The Bluejays had 256 yards of total offense, including 141 through the air.
I must say I'm surprised GACC lost, but then again I'm not.
Reason being the Bluejays were almost beat by Wisner-Pilger and narrowly edged Howells-Dodge, two good teams. But I'm surprised GACC actually lost.
The Bluejays (5-1) host Homer (0-6) Friday night.
The Knights lost 54-12 at home to Wisner-Pilger last week.
GACC should be able to win and dominate pretty easily, but the Bluejays have to get back to their ways offensively.
The Trojans actually slowed down Minnick, but I look for him to have another big game for GACC Friday night.
I bet he will run hard and be upset given what happened and transpired Friday night.
I think that goes for the whole team.
I look for the Bluejays to come out upset and angry given what happened and took place last week.
GACC isn't used to losing, and quite honestly I don't know what good comes out of losing to Wakefield.
All the Bluejays can do now though is win out and hope Wisner-Pilger knocks off the Trojans in the regular season finale.
If the Gators beat Wakefield then there would likely be a three way tie for the district.
So GACC can still win a District Title, but they need some help.
The Bluejays have to play with drive, heart, determination, toughness, and tenacity Friday night.
GACC has to get physical and nasty.
Doernemann and others have to blow Homer defenders off the ball and create big running lanes for Minnick, Steffen, and others.
I have a feeling the Bluejays will play like men possessed Friday night, and go out there and dominate.
Facing GACC after a loss is usually not a good thing given how upset they figure to be for sure.
The Bluejays have to come out with passion and fire and take it to the Knights for four quarters.
GACC should win out the rest of the regular season, but I think the Wakefield game was a real eye opener for the Bluejays, if anything.
