Tekamah-Herman picks up big win over defending C-2 Champs

The Tekamah-Herman Football Team picked up a gigantic 24-8 win at defending C-2 State champion Yutan Friday night.

Luke Wakehouse had 174 yards rushing on 13 carries and two touchdowns while Clay Beaumont had 81 yards rushing on 9 carries. Cole Friedel added 67 yards rushing on 3 carries, and scored once.

Gage Drummond made 17 tackles while Tristan Metzger and Chauncey Rogers had 12 and 11, respectively.

The Tigers had 334 yards of total offense, including 330 on the ground.

Head Coach Graig McElmuray says the win shows how far this program has come since 2015. "We have been getting better each week. Yutan has a great football team and good coaches. Getting a road win at Yutan means a lot to these seniors and leaving our jersey in a better place. When these kids were freshman we were losing 64-0 at halftime there at Yutan. A number of them played a lot that game and going back after the three/four year run Yutan has had, it's a big deal getting a win on the road. The fact that their kids won a state title last year was a bonus for our guys."

McElmuray adds it was a five headed monster in the backfield for his team last week. "We are doing everything we can to continue to establish a run game, we scored all of our touchdowns with the same basic play call. We have a lot of team speed, Clay Beaumont, Luke Wakehouse, Brandon Schram, Cole Freidel, and Dylan Chatt make a really nice rotation. Those kids along with Chauncey Rogers make a nice 4x100 team as well. It is very difficult for defenses to take away all of those players. All of those kids are capable of putting their toe in the ground and taking a long run to the end zone."

McElmuray says Beaumount and the O-line has really helped Wakehouse out a lot. "After Luke came back from his injury during Stanton. He has rushed for just shy of 400 yards in four games. During Conestoga week we moved him to fullback. He has only grown stronger and he takes coaching very well. He is averaging 7.84 Yards per carry. A major portion of his success is Clay Beaumont. He makes the reads, that gets the ball to Luke. With the other three being pitch options teams have a lot to cover. The Second biggest factor in his success is our offensive line which is vastly improved this year. That helps our team all the way around."

Tekamah-Herman (2-5) battles Louisville (1-6) at Plattsmouth High School Friday night.

The game was moved to Plattsmouth due to the field conditions at Louisville.

The Lions lost 56-20 at BRLD last week.

The Tigers lost 54-16 to the Wolverines so this should be a barn burner.

Tekamah-Herman has to do what they did last week to pick up another win, and shouldn't change a thing.

McElmuray says the team has performed well this year. "I really like the way Luke, Clay and the rest of the Juniors play football. Our Seniors have taught them well. Our Sophomores and Freshman have been coming along really well this year as well."

The future of Tekamah-Herman Football certainly looks bright, but the Tigers would love to win in a big way Friday night, there's no doubt about it.

You can bet Tekamah-Herman is very hungry and determined.

McElmuray says his team believes they can get the job done Friday night. "Wins are a product of playing well. We are confident in our ability to play well. Louisville is a good football team. I think it is going to be a great game, as they are looking to finish their season with two wins as we are looking to finish our season with three wins."

Three wins would be a great accomplishment for this team given where the program has been over the past few years.

The Tigers have really competed well and hard this year, and have been in just about every ball game.

Tekamah-Herman has to continue to finish drives and score when they have the opportunity.

It appears the Tigers did that last week, and that's something they'll need to do again this week if they want to win.

Running the ball is going to be the key for Tekamah-Herman. The Tigers need the same type of smashmouth performance they got last week.

The defense also has to play well like it did last week.

I'm really excited for Tekamah-Herman and anxious to see if they can pick up another big road win.

Back-to-back wins would be a big deal for the Tigers.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Plattsmouth.
