Pender falls at home to Emerson-Hubbard
The Pender Football Team lost 58-26 at home to Emerson-Hubbard Friday night.
The Pirates led 16-12 after one and won the second quarter 6-0 to take a 22-12 lead into the locker room.
Emerson-Hubbard outscored the Pendragons 22-8 in the 3rd quarter to go up 44-20 at the end of three.
The Pirates won the 4th quarter 14-6.
Caleb Trimble was 6-12 passing for 133 yards with a touchdown while Austin Roth went 4-10 for 70 yards with two touchdowns. Dylan Vogt hauled in 5 passes for 80 yards and scored twice while Jaydon Jump had 2 catches for 74 yards and a score.
Jump made 11 tackles while Roth had 10. Lucas Timm notched 9 while Jaxon Maise added 7.
Pender had 245 yards of total offense, including 206 passing. The defense gave up 330 yards of total offense, 266 of them coming on the ground.
Good effort from the Pendragons, but their inability to run the ball was the biggest difference in the game, in my opinion.
Pender (3-4) hosts Omaha Christian Academy (1-6) in the regular season finale Thursday night.
The Eagles won 22-12 at Cedar Bluffs last week.
This game is no gimme or easy win for the the Pendragons by any stretch of the imagination.
Anyone is beatable on any given night, and Pender has to bring it from start to finish Thursday night.
Win and the Pendragons might be able to sneak into the playoffs....lose and the season is likely over.
So it's pretty much win or go home....do or die for Pender.
The Pendragons have to run the football and be able to stop the run to be able to win this one I would say.
I fully expect Pender to get the job done and find a way to win, but the Pendragons have to play as if the season is on the line.
Pender has to play with a sense of purpose, drive, and urgency.
The Pendragons have to go out all out in this one if they are to have any chance of making the playoffs.
Pender is playing Thursday so the Pendragons have the luxury of taking care of business Thursday night and sitting back and watching things unfold on Friday.
Pender doesn't have to worry about scoreboard watching while they're playing a game...the Pendragons can do that from the luxury of their home or somewhere else.
The bottomline is Pender just has to come out and take care of business Thursday night.
The Pendragons have gotten better as the season has gone on, but will it be enough for Pender to get into the playoffs?
Right now the Pendragons sit 30th in power points so we'll see if Pender does enough to get in.
I think at the end of the day the Pendragons will sneak into the playoffs, but you just never know.
Pender just has to do what they can, which is come out and take care of business Thursday night.
The Pendragons have to control what they can control, let the rest take care of itself, and hope for the best.
As long as Pender wins Thursday night they will have put themselves in a position to secure a playoff berth.
