West Point-Beemer wins nail biter at Wayne

The West Point-Beemer Football Team won 23-22 at Wayne Friday night on a late scoring drive.

Head Coach Troy Schlueter says the team did a nice job hanging in there and pulling out the win. "It was really cool to see the kids respond after an interesting game with so many twists and turns. I'm proud of the way they kept their composure, and showed the type of character it takes to pull off a last minute comeback on the final drive."

Schlueter adds a number of kids played well in the game. "Offensive line had maybe their best and most physical game, Jesus Barragan ran the option and the offense well, Blake Anderson was huge on both sides of the ball like usual, Edgar Rodriguez had a pick-six that was huge and Gustav Grimelius had a field goal early, and kicked the winning extra point with less than a minute left."

The Cadets (6-1) host Pierce (7-0) Friday night.

The Bluejays walloped Logan View/Scribner-Snyder 56-7 at home last week.

Pierce is a great team, and has beat every opponent by double digits so far this season.

These two teams are familiar with one another as West Point-Beemer upset the Bluejays in the regular season at home last year before Pierce got the Cadets in the playoffs.

Schlueter discusses the keys to the game. "I think it will take a clean game with small numbers of penalties and turnovers coupled with a commitment to raising our level of play to compete with a really good Pierce team."

Weather could definitely be a factor in this game so you never know what might happen.

Schlueter says his squad is confident they can win again this year. "I think our kids are confident going into every game because they expect to be competitive. We know that every game is a unique opportunity to raise our level of play, and last year was a good example of accomplishing that game goal."

Anyone can be beat on any given night, and the Cadets have to go out there and give it all they got.

West Point-Beemer is a really good team, and if the Cadets can play better than they did against Wahoo then they should have a chance.

West Point-Beemer can't be scared of or intimidated by Pierce.

The Bluejays are a great team, but so are the Cadets, and West Point-Beemer is definitely capable of hanging with the Bluejays and handing them their first loss.

The Cadets have to bring the lunch pail to the field Friday night and get ready to hit.

This figures to be a very physical football game so the line has to play well for West Point-Beemer.

Anderson and Barragan need to make big plays as well for the Cadets to be able to win.

West Point-Beemer has to get themselves psyched and jacked up for this one in a big way.

It's going to take something extra to knock off mighty Pierce, and the Cadets have to come out and play the best game they've ever played.

West Point-Beemer did it once, and so certainly the Cadets can do it again.

The crowd has to be electric loud and proud and really get into it and get behind this team.
