Howells-Dodge nips Elkhorn Valley
The Howells-Dodge Football Team won 20-16 at Elkhorn Valley Friday afternoon.
The Jaguars led 6-0 at halftime before the Falcons outscored Howells-Dodge 16-14 in the 4th quarter.
Here is the scoring recap from the game:
Second Quarter
Howells-Dodge 2 03:04 #10 Darrin Pokorny runs for 32 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion run by #10 Darrin Pokorny no good)
Fourth Quarter
Elkhorn Valley 4 11:58 #5 Braedyn Ollendick runs for 2 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion pass by #5 Braedyn Ollendick to #28 Brock Schaecher good)
Howells-Dodge 4 07:59 #10 Darrin Pokorny runs for 27 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion run by #26 Trevor Jedlicka no good)
Elkhorn Valley 4 05:30 #7 Josh Mcfarland runs for 13 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion run by #5 Braedyn Ollendick good)
Howells-Dodge 4 01:46 #10 Darrin Pokorny pass complete to #7 Charlie Dvorak for 39 yards. Touchdown! (Two point conversion run by #26 Trevor Jedlicka good)
Pokorny had 168 yards rushing on 28 carries, including two touchdowns. He was 3-5 passing for 61 yards with a touchdown. Charlie Dvorak had 2 catches for 50 yards, including a score.
Levi Belina registered 17 tackles while Carter Throener and Trevor Schumacher notched 14 apiece. Pokorny had 12 while Dvorak recorded 11. Carter Jensen added 9 while Lane Hegemann and Gaute Gunleiksrud made 8 each.
The Jaguars had 353 yards of total offense, 292 of them on the ground.
The defense gave up 280 yards of total offense, including 154 passing.
I think not having Dylan Horejsi and Kade Hegemann really hampered and hurt Howells-Dodge in this one, and was why this game was as close as it was.
The Jaguars (4-2) host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (3-3) Friday night.
The Bears lost 62-42 at home to Lutheran High Northeast last week.
That's not a bad loss for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, and if Howells-Dodge doesn't have everyone back they could lose.
Hopefully the Jaguars will be at full strength, but if not they may not win.
I guess it's wait and see with Howells-Dodge.
All the Jaguars can do is go out there and play their best and give it their best shot with who they've got.
Imagine what Howells-Dodge would be like if Kade Hegemann and Horejsi were both back and healthy.
I think the Jaguars would only have one loss right now if Hegemann had been there against LHNE.
Injuries are a part of the game though, and teams have to deal with them.
Howells-Dodge really needs everyone for this game although they're sitting pretty in the Wildcard Point Standings.
The Jaguars definitely want to win out though as this is a big game for Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars don't want to lose their final home game of the regular season.
Howells-Dodge wants to go out a winner in their final home regular season game and finish the regular season strong.
Injuries may prevent that from happening, but either way the Jaguars have to do their best to make that happen.
Howells-Dodge has to go out there and play a good game and give it all they got Friday night.
The Jaguars have to play with hearts of champions like they have all season.
Pokorny has to shoulder the load offensively if called upon to do so again.
I thought he did a nice job of stepping up last week and leading this team.
He may need to do that again this week for Howells-Dodge to be victorious.
