Head Coach Graig McElmuray says the Tigers nearly pulled it out, but came up a bit short. "The Game while did not end up going our way was one of the most exciting games that I have coached here at Tekamah. With two minutes to go we drove 70 plus yards for a chance to win the game with 14 seconds left to go in the game. On the Final play the pass was batted down with time expiring. We had two fumbles returned one for a touch down the other to the 1 yard line. I think we win 28-14 if we do not make those two mistakes."
I would agree with McElmuray on that one. That appeared to be the difference in the game.
Tekamah-Herman (2-6) closes out the regular season at home against Fremont Bergan (5-3) Friday night.
The Knights lost 38-7 at BRLD last week.
McElmuray says Bergan knows what's on the line, but his team is ready to put up a fight and go to battle. "Bergan is coming into this game looking to get back on track and sneak into the playoffs. They will be ready. With the way we are playing right now and how much we have improved in the last five weeks as a football team and as a group of young men, I feel that getting scores and driving the ball will make this a difficult game for Bergan. If Bergan can force fumbles and force turnovers we will have trouble over coming those just like any team."
The Knights need to win or they may not make the playoffs as they currently sit 16th in power points, the final spot in the C-2 playoffs.
McElmuray adds his squad is ready to take their frustrations out on Bergan. "I love these games. There is so much on the line for them, there is nothing but pride for our young men. This group of seniors takes that very seriously. These guys feel like they want to keep playing football. They are not happy with the outcomes of games this entire season and feel they left just a little bit out on the field more than once."
This is one of these games where quite honestly Tekamah-Herman has nothing to lose and shouldn't be feeling the pressure.
The Tigers just have to go out there and let everything take care of itself.
McElmuray adds the culture is changing at Tekamah-Herman. "Last week was the first time in 6 years that I have been associated with Tekamah Herman I have seen this kind of emotion and raw energy from players, parents, and coaches in a positive manner. I think our young players have seen the positive that wins and great games can give in terms of momentum."
The parents and fans have to get behind this team again this week and cheer them on to victory.
Tekamah-Herman has to go out there and play their tails off like there is no tomorrow....because let's face it there's not.
This is the last time these seniors will ever put on the Purple and Gold of Tekamah-Herman, and the last time they will play on their home field.
This year's senior class has had quite the roller coaster ride throughout their careers, but a win over the Knights would cap things off nicely.
The Tigers have already been in and competed hard in most of their games this year, and I feel Tekamah-Herman can win this one.
It's about changing culture and building excitement around your program, and that's what the Tigers have done.
Now Tekamah-Herman has to go out there and finish the job Friday night, and spoil Bergan's season.
